Why WWE Needs Another Women’s Championship

Why WWE Needs Another Women's Championship

WWE is big on women’s empowerment, so, interestingly, they haven’t added another singles Women’s Championship, especially now with the incredible new and young talent emerging. Since the Diva’s Revolution turned to Women’s Evolution from 2015-2016, the fans have consistently shown their love and support for women’s wrestling.

Their support has been equal to or even more extensive than the men’s. As a woman who grew up watching professional wrestling before this occurred, it was beautiful to watch it all unfold.

Let us consider why the WWE should add another women’s singles championship.

Not Everyone Will Be a Top-Star

It is never guaranteed that one will become a top star in the company. Everyone hopes for this when signing that contract, but it’s not guaranteed.

This includes superstars who become fan favorites. If WWE were to introduce another singles women’s championship, this would give many women who can be world champions an opportunity to show that.

There are women on the roster that fans love to see, such as Chelsea Green, Maxxine Dupri, Michin, and many more.

By adding another singles championship for the women, fans will see many more of their favorite wrestlers win and be involved in more legitimate storylines rather than some that come across as filler segments. Having another championship will not only spotlight a wrestler and showcase their skills but it can also show if they have the potential to be a future world champion.

While the women’s roster is less extensive than the men’s, we have seen many repeat champions. This isn’t a bad thing but fans always want something new.

Adding a new championship will feature new wrestlers, pushing many of them to become future world champions.

Pushing The WWE Roster

This decision would benefit the women’s roster rather than hurt them. However, if a new title is introduced, the company needs to invest time and energy in the stories surrounding it to make it more than just a mid-card title.

While that is technically what it would be, the women need to be able to give the championship more meaning to get the fans invested as well. It would be cool to see the women get their version of the United States or Intercontinental Championship.

Considering there is already a lot of crossover between the NXT women’s roster and the main roster, it would be interesting to see this title involved with both all three shows under the WWE banner. This would expand the competition for the title and bring never-before-seen matches showcasing new and upcoming talent.

If the title were also involved in NXT, this would help put more eyes on the new stars who will be the company’s future. While also assisting the talent in adjusting to the main roster upon arriving full-time.

Any woman in the company would benefit from getting more television opportunities. A decision like this would also bring many surprises to the fans.

If the championship were to go between NXT and the main roster, there would be many debuts on each brand, attracting more attention to both shows. This would also help bring consistent viewership to both shows when fans look forward to those segments.

What Not To Do

If WWE would instead test the idea of a new championship before committing to one, they should start including the NXT Women’s North American Championship on the main roster and test how the fans respond. I could see another championship failing if they don’t try to make it legitimate.

For example, the 24/7 championship was a comedic and entertaining segment. However, overall, it didn’t mean too much winning the championship.

This ultimately led to the title being retired. Now, there is a WWE Speed Championship, and unfortunately, the championship may also have a quick run.

It is an exciting concept but having consistently three-minute and five-minute matches can get frustrating, especially when the competitors in this match are all very talented. They deserve more than five minutes to show that.

The Women’s Evolution started in the company because there were too many short matches for women.

I think WWE could keep it simple and create either a Women’s Intercontinental or United States Championship and eliminate the Speed Championship, including for the men’s roster. Since the men’s Speed Championship was created in February 2024, I have not heard much about it.

Introducing one for the women won’t be much different. If they retire that title and put more time and energy into a new championship, it can help create more stories that fans actually want to see.

Ideas For the Championship

As I mentioned, I think this title should be equivalent to the men’s United States Championship or Intercontinental Championship, whether that means simply creating a Women’s Intercontinental Championship or creating a new title and holding it to that level of prestige. It would be interesting to see someone like Green or Piper Niven become this new champion and get that push that fans want to see.

If the title switches between NXT and the main roster, it would be cool to see either Roxanne Perez or Cora Jade hold the title, especially considering they must make their permanent main roster debut soon. Even if Giulia won, it would be a great first title for her before winning the NXT or WWE Women’s Championship.

A new women’s championship could do so much, but will they invest the time and energy into creating one?
