The History

After the WWE Draft, Kalisto ended up on the Smackdown Live, apart from the cruiserweights, which seemed to be an interesting choice at the time. Nevertheless, he was placed into a match that would determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental title  against Apollo Crew and Baron Corbin. Crews ultimately won the match, but Kalisto was injured and spent time off of television. Upon his return on November 8th, Kalisto wrestled Corbin and during the course of the match, Corbin slipped off the apron and injured his knee. Kalisto, still harboring resentment for his own injury, acted if a manner that does reflect his normal character, as he attacked Corbin knee repeatedly, eliminating the big man from the Smackdown Survivor Series team.

Survivor Series Shenanigans

Going into Survivor Series, the Intercontinental title was defended by Miz against Sami Zayn, with the stipulation that Is Zayn won, RAW would feature the Cruiserweight title. Mick Foley matched Bryan’s risk and upped it then some, as he declared that Brian Kendrick would also defend his title and that if he were to lose the title to Kalisto the entire cruiserweight division would move to Smackdown. Mid-match Corbin came into the ring and struck Kendrick, earning the champion a disqualification victory and successful defense. After assuring that Kalisto lost, Corbin then attacked the smaller man viciously, earning a measure of revenge for Kalisto’s transgression.

Chairs Match

With chair playing a part in the unpleasantries between the two and the aptly titled titled PPV, this match was signed with the stipulation in mind. The match is already a physical mismatch, with Kalisto going in as the clear underdog and the ability to use chairs only compounds the trouble he will encounter in this one. Corbin has been built up as a vicious heel and although Kalisto will get a few shots in, the chair stipulation is not an equalizer, but rather an impediment to Kalisto’s path to victory. Look for Corbin too look dominant and win this one in decisive fashion.
