In some sad new coming out of the United Kingdom it has been announced that longtime promoter and legendary figure Brian Dixon has passed away with many in the business already sharing tributes to the man.
Brian Dixon Passes Away
Brian Dixon was the founder and promoter of All Star Wrestling/Wrestling Enterprises in Birkenhead, a promotion that has been active since October 1970. He was the brain behind the Giant Haystakcs gimmick, one which would go on to achieve huge fame later on for a different company.
Dixon later achieved massive success by pushing names like Kendo Nagasaki, Robbie Brookside, and Rollerball Rocco, going on to have a boom in live gates after being pulled from ITV as fans kept turning up to see the latest change int he storylines involving Dixon’s top stars.
As time wore on and the UK wrestling boom died off All Star Wrestling continued to tour the country successfully by running family-friendly shows featuring a mix of local talent getting their first opportunities and big stars like Bryan Danielson, Colt Cabana, Nigel McGuinness and many more.
It goes without saying that UK wrestling would look entirely different without the influence of Dixon who launched the careers of many of the most fondly remembered names in UK wrestling history, the fact that he managed to succeed for over 50 years speaks to his adaptability, eye for talent, and ability to give the fans what they want.
LWOPW sends out best wishes to the friends, family and colleagues of Brian Dixon who has been remembered by the wrestling world following the news of his passing.
