Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This time we take a look at Franco Varga. Ryan Boman spoke with Varga about his career and plans.
That alert you hear from your Emergency Broadcast System is not a test. It has nothing to do with tornadoes, fires, or flash floods. It is – quite simply – a warning to the wrestling world that Franco Varga is on his way. And he’s bringing plenty of thunder and lightning with him.
Varga, a 275-pound big man with both power and agility, has been like a global storm over the past several years. Not only has he crisscrossed the United States, but he’s also competed in Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. As he flows along the jet stream, he has made his presence felt on nearly every continent.
That consistent schedule has led to a tidal wave of success, but it hasn’t always been a breeze. The 10-year veteran has faced some of the very best competition on multiple continents, and the Doppler Effect has increased his overall skill level. He’s now been upgraded to a Category-5 pro wrestling prospect. One that may be on the verge of touching down and wreaking havoc in either WWE or All Elite Wrestling very soon.

Varga immediately discussed how much his travels have helped him prepare both physically and mentally for the next level. As one of the most in-demand performers in today’s indie scene, he’s constantly fielding offers from promotions in the United States and abroad. The blue-chip prospect says that working in different environments and against varied opponents has helped to up his game.

Franco Varga Is Cut From the Mold of a Traditional Big Man
While many wrestlers of his size might resort to high spots and dives, Varga still tries to keep it simple. Despite being part of a new wave of talent, he remains steadfast to a few old-school beliefs. Therefore, he uses plenty of slams and throws during his matches. And although he can go toe-to-toe with the best of them, he still likes to remind people what real professional wrestling is all about.
