At a HOODSLAM event on May 14 independent wrestling standout, Nicole Savoy announced her retirement from pro wrestling. Savoy has long been seen as one of the best-unsigned women’s wrestlers in the United States and sadly never reached the heights many expected her to in her career.

Nicole Savoy began wrestling in 2011 but it wasn’t until 2014 that she would finally break out and become a regular for premiere women’s wrestling promotion SHIMMER Wrestling. Savoy built her reputation primarily through her SHIMMER work, even earning a spot in the Mae Young Classic in 2017. In SHIMMER, Savoy became the first Heart of SHIMMER Champion, winning the inaugural title in April of 2017 before winning the promotions top championship in 2017 embarking on a 721-day reign as SHIMMER World Champion. Notably, Savoy defended the SHIMMER title in Japanese promotion Stardom, whom she toured with in 2018 when she compete in their annual 5STAR Grand Prix.
Over the past few years Savoy had been wrestling for a variety of promotions including Ring of Honor, Major League Wrestling, and All Elite Wrestling (where she wrestled as Lil Swole). To many it just seemed like a matter of when and not if Savoy would eventually be signed by a major promotion, sadly she will instead be looked back on as another talented women’s wrestler that never got the opportunity she deserved on the biggest stage.
