This weekend, the National Wrestling Alliance kicked off the Crockett Cup 2022 two-night event. The first night of the festivities saw the historic tag team tournament unfold, featuring a number of teams in not only the NWA but outside promotions as well. Through multiple first-round and quarterfinal matches, certain teams moved on while others were eliminated from contention. The semifinal and final matches took place on the second night. In the finals, The Briscoe Brothers (Jay and Mark Briscoe) faced The Commonwealth Connection (Harry Smith and Doug Williams) for not only the trophy showcased at the beginning of the event but NWA World Tag Team Championship contention. Following a grueling final match, The Briscoe Brothers emerged victorious as the winners of the 2022 Crockett Cup tournament.

What to Know About the 2022 Tournament Winners
The Crockett Cup is only the latest in a long line of achievements for The Briscoes. They may be best known as 12x tag team titleholders in Ring of Honor, which had been their home promotion up until its recent ceasing of operations. However, this is far from their extent of their tag team success. They captured tag team gold in organizations including Combat Zone Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and more recently, Game Changer Wrestling and House of Glory.
The Briscoes are now recognized as the winners of the fifth-ever Crockett Cup. Previous winners include The Road Warriors in 1987, Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes in 1987, Lex Luger and Sting in 1988, and PCO and current All Elite Wrestling star Brody King in 2019. The fifth tournament was originally set to return in April 2020 before said tournament’s cancelation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
