Earlier today, it was announced that numerous members of WWE personnel have been let go from the company. Among the names released from WWE include William Regal, Road Dogg, Scott Armstrong, and Dave Kapoor. Prior to names being unveiled, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful took to Twitter to provide an overview. “WWE issued Fightful a statement saying ‘With the continued evolution of NXT 2.0, we’ve decided to part ways with some of the staff based in our Performance Center,'” said Sapp. “‘We thank them for their many contributions throughout the years and wish them the best.'” PW Insider would also confirm the news. William Regal, Road Dogg, and Others Released
2021 was considered one of the most startling years in WWE from a talent release standpoint. From January to December 2021, 80 wrestlers were let go. While it remains to be seen whether 2022 will be more of the same, it’s nonetheless startling to see certain names released from the company. Arguably the most surprising was William Regal who, up until the summer of 2021, was a regular character on NXT as the brand’s General Manager. At the time of his release, Regal was with the company for 22 years, not only as an on-screen personality and wrestler but a behind-the-scenes worker as well. On WWE.com, he was referred to as the Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting.
This isn’t to say that other names on this list that wrestling fans are familiar with – namely Road Dogg, Dave Kapoor, and Scott Armstrong – aren’t surprising. They have been long-standing members of WWE personnel, on NXT and otherwise, serving multiple roles during their time with the company.
In terms of talent released, Hideki Suzuki may be the one that has taken fans aback the most. As a member of Diamond Mine, Suzuki had a prominent role on NXT 2.0. Timothy Thatcher signed with WWE in February of 2020, playing roles ranging from singles heel to tag team babyface, but has been absent following the advent of 2.0.
