Preview: AEW New Year’s Smash Rampage (12/31/21)

new years smash 2021

What a way to end 2021, a year full of excellent wrestling action, with AEW Rampage. The New Year’s Smash 2021 edition of Rampage will come at you fast, Friday on New Year’s Eve. 2021 is probably the biggest year All Elite Wrestling has ever had, thus far. Surely, 2022 will not be any different filled with spectacular matches and unforgettable moments fans will remember for years to come. However, AEW continues to provide its fans, even on the last day of the year, with the hard-hitting action and will look to ring in the new year right with a show that’s sure to delight on New Year’s Eve.

In this edition of Rampage, one of the four pillars of AEW looks to takeout one-half of The Acclaimed in what’s sure to be a hard-hitting affair. Speaking of hard-hitting affairs, a Street Fight is sanctioned for this Friday night between two teams looking to settle the score and draw blood. Last and certainly not least, the TNT Championship will be on the line as “The American Nightmare” kicks off his third reign as champion in his first title defense against an opponent with an ax to grind and a chip on his shoulder. Let’s rundown the action for New Year’s Smash 2021.

Full AEW Rampage Match Card – New Year’s Smash 2021:

  • Technique By Taz Featuring Hook’s Red Rum
  • Street Fight: Penelope Ford & The Bunny vs. Tay Conti & Anna Jay
  • Darby Allin (w/Sting) vs. Anthony Bowens (w/Max Caster)
  • TNT Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Ethan Page

Payback’s A B-tch

TayJay looks to end this war once and for all as they challenged The Bunny and Penelope Ford to a Street Fight. The team of Anna Jay and Tay Conti have been battling The Bunny & Penelope for months now and every encounter is bloodier than the last. Ford and The Bunny have constantly employed the use of the Brass Knuckles in order to secure victories over the duo.  However, in one on one competition, Jay and Conti have both their numbers.

Anna and Tay are looking to make a statement that in this woman’s division. There can only be one team that reigns supreme. And, they also look to teach the duo of Ford and The Bunny a lesson in respect. To their credit, Penelope and The Bunny are not backing down. As they’re looking to assert their very own brand of dominance over the AEW Women’s Division. These two teams are looking to have the last word on the matter and it all goes down Friday on Rampage only on TNT!

All Out For “All Ego”

Ethan Page finally gets his, according to him, much-deserved shot at the TNT Championship against the newly-crowned TNT Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes. Only one week removed from a historic win against Sammy Guevara, Cody looks to keep his title reign going against an opponent who’s willing to do anything and everything to win the gold. Page, since his arrival in AEW, felt he has been overlooked long enough. Along with Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page has been voicing out his concerns about people “jumping the line” ahead of him to secure such opportunities. Enough is enough for “All Ego”. And, this Friday night he looks to takedown Rhodes and to secure the TNT Championship once and for all.

With that being said, Cody will not go down easily. He made history just last week by being a third-time champion in any division. And, he will undoubtedly fight tooth and nail to keep the TNT Title around his waist for as long as he has anything to say about it. This will definitely be one barn-burner of a match to end the year. Both men with a lot at stake and everything to fight for. Will Ethan Page finally taste gold in AEW or will Cody Rhodes shatter those dreams this Friday on Rampage?
