#AndNEW: Cody Rhodes Wins TNT Championship For Third Time

Cody Rhodes Battle of the Belts

A new champion has been crowned on Christmas night. AEW Rampage aired on a special Saturday night edition of the show titled Holiday Bash and some history was made in the process as Cody Rhodes defeated Sammy Guevara to become the new TNT Champion. Rhodes won the championship after hitting a Cross Rhodes and followed it up with a Tiger Driver 98. This marks Rhodes’ third time holding the championship, making him the first wrestler in AEW history to hold any championship on three separate occasions. Guevara’s reign as TNT Champion ends at 86 days after defeating Miro for the title back in September.

Cody Rhodes initially laid down the challenge to Guevara a number of weeks ago, picking his spot on Christmas night to get gold around his waist once again. The title win comes at an interesting time for Rhodes. He has been repeatedly booed out of the building no matter where AEW has their shows. Rhodes has even acknowledged the treatment the fans have been giving him, saying in a promo that he would not “turn.” It’s been mostly a wasted year for him as well, continuously missing from TV and teasing to retire after his first encounter with Malakai Black. It’s safe to say that this new reign for Rhodes will be his most important reign yet.

With a roster that is dramatically different from the last time Rhodes held the TNT Championship in 2020, it will be interesting to see who steps up to challenge him next. It has been made known that both Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page have said they want shots but they surely will not be the only ones.
