On tonight’s edition of AEW Saturday Night Dynamite, The Lucha Brothers were scheduled to defend the AAA World Tag Team Championship. Rey Fénix and Penta El Zero M captured the titles at the 2019 Verano de Escándalo event, where they bested longtime rivals The Young Bucks. On Dynamite, their opponents were two men claimed to be “close friends of Andrade El Idolo.” The opponents in question were “luchadores” known as Las Super Ranas. However, it didn’t take long for fans to determine that they weren’t who they claimed to be. During the match, The Lucha Brothers unmasked their opponents, revealing them as Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, FTR. Ultimately, it was FTR that ended the match with the last laugh, capturing the AAA World Tag Team Championship for the first time.

FTR Capture the AAA World Tag Team Titles
With this loss, The Lucha Brothers’ second AAA World Tag Team Championship reign has come to an end at 854 days. As mentioned earlier, they have held the titles since 2019, before the pandemic and throughout it as well. Among the opponents they successfully defended the titles against include El Hijo del Vikingo and Puma King, in addition to fellow AEW stars Santana and Ortiz. It’s unknown when, or if, The Lucha Brothers will challenge FTR to a rematch, so stay tuned.
Meanwhile, this marks the seventh tag team title reign of FTR. In addition to being the current AAA world tag team champions, they captured gold in AEW, winning their home promotion’s World Tag Team Championship in September of last year. In terms of World Wrestling Entertainment, where they wrestled as The Revival, they captured the NXT and Raw Tag Team Championship twice each.
