The Forbidden Door has been closed, but the door to redemption is slowly opening! Following June 28’s exciting pay-per-view, the fallout comes out in droves as MJF defends the AEW World Championship against Mark Briscoe. Meanwhile, the AEW TBS Championship takes a page out of ROH with a Survival of the Fittest Match! In it, Queen Aminata, Kris Statlander, Hikaru Shida, Harley Cameron, CMLL’s Persephone, and Stardom’s Maika vie for the belt. Not much else is currently advertised, but there will be developments in other feuds, such as Chris Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa. Also, what could the Switchblade, Jay White, have planned as he returned with Bang Bang Gang friends at Forbidden Door?

Renee Paquette’s Post-Forbidden Door Interview with Will Ospreay
A bloody yet jubilant Ospreay, flanked by wife Alex Windsor, gleefully rejoiced with Paquette. Jon Moxley emerged from a nearby locker room with a bag of ice to nurse Ospreay’s wounds. He encouraged the Aerial Assassin to help keep AEW great and offered to make him a Death Rider with an official Death Rider pin.
Kenny Omega approached the wary Ospreay. They debated on whether or not Ospreay was in the right to align with the Riders. MJF insulted Omega and told Ospreay he’d see him at Wembley. Omega assured Ospreay that no matter who he stood by, he’d still be by his side.
MJF (c) defeated Mark Briscoe for the AEW World Championship
The champion boisterously strutted around his challenger; this stopped when Briscoe let off some right and left hooks. MJF played possum before subduing Briscoe, reopening his wound by biting and digging at his scarred forehead. Briscoe landed on his feet following a backwards toss from the top rope. He peppered the Long Island native with a Death Valley Driver and a sliding lariat. MJF swung a comeback by striking the top rope to plummet Briscoe on the turnbuckle. Gnawing at MJF’s forehead, Briscoe executed a thunderous Froggy Bow.
Briscoe cannonballed MJF after sending him outside. Propping up a steel chair in the ring, the Sussex County Chicken took flight to knock over MJF, who had just stood back up. Mounting the champ on a table, Briscoe’s hubris became his folly as the defender shoved him off the top rope and onto the sturdy ring apron.
Briscoe stripped the concrete of its padding, scooping and slamming MJF to its exposed coldness, adding an elbow drop for further agony. Racing across the barricade, Briscoe dropped MJF with a running neckbreaker. At last, he crashed a Froggy Bow into MJF on a table. As though silently vowing to end MJF, Briscoe stayed on him with a Froggy Bow and a Jay Driller. Flinging Briscoe about, MJF finalized the retention of his reign with a Heatseeker to a crimson Briscoe.
Match review: Imaginative and thorough; MJF innovated his defense to stay alive with precise situational awareness. Briscoe gave everyone their yearned-for dripping blood. Chaotic opener.
Post-match: Gloating over his victory and harassing the medical staff, MJF readied a Dynamite Diamond Ring. Kenny Omega darted to Briscoe’s rescue. Omega postured that he should have another chance at the belt. MJF declined at first, before changing his mind, stating that if Omega won, he could never challenge for the AEW World Championship again.
MJF’s gripes against the Don Callis Family
Deriding the failure of his Forbidden Door allies at the pay-per-view, MJF denounced them. He positioned himself above Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega, calling the latter gutless. Ospreay approached, telling MJF he’d break his neck doing something so inappropriate I can’t write it here. MJF reiterated his comments in the pre-taped Forbidden Door interview that he’d see him in Wembley.
Tony Schiavone interviewed Andrade El Idolo
Schiavone recounted Idolo’s betrayal of the Don Callis Family at Forbidden Door. He straightened himself up, declaring himself to be in line to challenge for the AEW Men’s World Championship. Kevin Knight, Lance Archer, and Jake Doyle clobbered him flat, and Brian Cage spiked him with a vertical suplex.
Mercedes Mone bragged over her Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Victory
Stating that dreams don’t win championships. She set her eyes toward All In and the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Kevin Knight (c) defeated Lio Rush for the AEW TNT Championship
Rush brought a backpack to the ring and gestured to Knight to open it. Traumatized by the exploding bag at Forbidden Door, Knight cautiously opened it to find a faux-belt. Rush caught Knight’s leg, biting it, and peppering his face with slaps. Jake Doyle, who remained by Knight’s side, pulled him to safety as he retreated to the comfort of Don Callis. Doyle, distracted, didn’t notice Rush’s legs sending Knight outside. Galloping to generate speed, Rush vaulted over the top to careen Knight into the commentary desk.
Rush’s luck continued to swell, as he targeted Knight’s leg, tripping him up to deliver a stunner. Doyle once more slid Knight out of the ring for protection; unbeknownst to him, Rush flew in with an elbow to topple the giant. Knight regained momentum with a pop-up powerbomb. A powerslam later, and Knight walked away still the TNT Champion.
Match review: These two contrast nicely, and the crowd is truly resonating with Rush’s bizarre character the more he appears.
Post-match: Darby Allin interrupted any celebrations Knight, Doyle, and Callis may have thought of. He challenged Knight for the TNT Championship at AEW Redemption. Before Knight could oblige, Callis refused.
Tommaso Ciampa and Chris Jericho brawled in the parking lot
Ciampa led an interview by Renee Paquette when a vengeful Jericho set upon him. They battered each other en route to the outside. In the sun-kissed parking lot, security had strenuous trouble separating them, but they eventually succeeded.
Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks debated the AEW Men’s World Championship stipulation
Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks implored Omega to reconsider the consequences of never being able to challenge for the AEW Men’s World Championship. Nick reminded everyone he liked to gamble. Omega declared he’d pursue this goal alone.
Will Ospreay & Jon Moxley defeated The Swirl (Blake Christian & Lee Johnson)
The Swirl ambushed Moxley, stomping his midsection in the corner. Ospreay leapt into action, spiking Christian to the mat and kicking Johnosn outside. Johnson tied Moxley’s arm, leaving him prime and open for Christian’s boot. Moxley chopped his way to near-safety on both of his aggressors before Jay Lethal tripped him up. Marina Shafir hurled Lethal backwards in an exploder suplex. Moxley hit a King Kong Lariat to take down Johnson. Ospreay swung haymakers at both Swirl members.
Moxley and Ospreay charged into Johnson in the corner, taking turns. Ospreay pushed Moxley away to catch Christian mid-air for an Oscutter. Johnson nearly goosed Moxley before Ospreay pinned him with a Hidden Blade.
Match review: This told a story of how two long-standing tag wrestlers had the best of two newly put-together talents. That, though victorious, Moxley and Ospreay had a bit to go before they’d work in tandem, yet put on a successful endeavor nonetheless.
Cage & Cope discussed Jay White
Rejoicing over their win against The Dogs at Forbidden Door, Cage questioned why White’s presence was needed. Copeland vouched for him because he had helped him before the long-standing injury that kept White inactive. Cage, however, had pre-existing beef with White and wasn’t quite as enthused by his actions at the pay-per-view.
Jay White addressed his return
Waiting 459 days for his return, White threw his “guns up” with his Bang Bang Gang friends. Echoing the Baha Men’s hit song, he asked the California crowd, “Who let the dogs out?” Recalling his history with David Finlay, he remembered their time in NJPW and the night he ostracized him from the Bullet Club. To White, Finlay’s a nepo-baby. The Switchblade Era was back in full swing.
Shane Taylor Promotions to stand before the Bang Bang Gang
Backstage, Taylor and his factionmates threatened to end the full capacity of the Bang Bang Gang’s Comeback.
Hikaru Shida defeated Kris Statlander, Maika, Harley Cameron, Queen Aminata, and Persephone in a Survival of the Fittest Match for the AEW TBS Championship
Every woman jumped into a chaotic dustbowl of action, with Shida and Persephone being the last two standing. Persephone and Cameorn united to send Shida and Statlander out. They collaborated once more to bludgeon Maika. With Aminata and Shida in the corner, their alliance looked strong. However, Persphone turned against her, pinning her after a gnarly powerbomb. Statlander stood up to the CMLL talent,
Maika stood her ground against the looming Statlander, who was evicted outside by Persephone. Shida tied Maika’s leg for an ankle lock. Shida eliminated Maika with a roll-up pinfall. Absorbing enough bullying from Shida, Aminata shoved her away and headbutted her with Queen’s Crown. Taking advantage of Aminata’s recuperation from an Off-With-Her-Head, Persephone rolled the Queen up for another pinfall elimination.
Persephone and Statlander collided with a simultaneous lariat. Shida sought to exploit their exhaustion, but Persephone stood to quell her. Statlander chopped both women and crushed them with a back elbow. Persephone and Statlander seesawed pin attempts, with the former soon being eliminated. Shida picked at the scraps of Statlander with kicks and a Falcon Arrow. Snatching the TBS title, Shida missed her swing on Statlander, yet locked in an ankle lock. Persephone clobbered Shida with the title, leading Shida to choke her out to become the new AEW TBS Champion.
Match review: Carnage the whole way through, with action almost impossible to keep up with. Persephone clearly got much of the crowd’s reaction, and the boos that followed her elimination suggested that the booking may not have anticipated her growing popularity.
