New Mexico houses tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite. A few states over from California, the host of AEW Forbidden Door, defines the AEW TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest tournament. Former title holder Willow Nightingale’s past tag team partner, Harley Cameron, takes on Death Riders’ Marina Shafir in a qualifying match. Erstwhile, Queen Aminata takes on ROH World Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet in another qualifier. BroDido unites with CMLL’s Mistico in trios action against the Death Riders.

While Kenny Omega faces NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr, their teammates engage in tag action. That’s right, Nick and Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks tackle TMDK’s Mikey Nicholls and Bad Dude Tito. Former NJPW World Television Champion El Phantasmo clashes for the first time in years against Will Ospreay. Of course, following last week’s drama between Ospreay and Swerve Strickland, the latter takes on his estranged friend’s ally, Daniel Garcia of the Death Riders.

Results From AEW Dynamite Tonight (6/24/26)

Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, & Claudio Castagnoli) defeated Mistico & BroDido (Brody King & Bandido)

Yuta stuck it through Bandido’s speed and agility, eventually trapping him in a Single-Leg Boston Crab. Bandido responded with a series of arm drags. Moxley grounded the luchador, thus allowing Castagnoli to stomp a mudhole in him by their corner. Mistico surprised Castagnoli with a Springboard Back Elbow. The giant Death Rider retaliated with a Backbreaker. Much like a cyclone, Mistico recuperated with an extended spinning hurricanrana. King met Castagnoli for an elbow exchange. BroDido and Mistico propelled the Death Riders into the outside barricade a la Tope Suicidas.

Death Riders isolated Bandido across the ring from his partners, running a train on him in their turnbuckle. Bandido fired back with chops and a dropkick. Mistico sent Yuta and Castagnoli flying with hurricanranas, with a Mexican Destroyer on the latter. Moxley leapt on King’s back but found himself in the corner, falling victim to a Cannonball. After Moxley dispatched Bandido and Mistico, King thundered back with a lariat. Marina Shafir distracted King, leading Castagnoli to whallop him with Moxley’s AEW Continental Championship. Moxley stole the win with a roll-up.

Match review: Excellent spots here. King hit a backflip arm drag off the ropes that betrayed his stature. The Death Riders have nice chemistry with BroDido and Mistico.

Team Briscoe spoke

Renee Paquette asked the Conglomeration, Darby Allin, and Konosuke Takeshita how they felt ahead of Forbidden Door. While they were semi-doubtful, they expressed that they’d put everything they had into the match against Team MJF. Kyle O’Reilly hinted that Mark Briscoe would have something in store for the weekend. Paquette asked Orange Cassidy if he was alright, to which he responded with “It’s fine”. The two grimaced and walked away.

Marina Shafir defeated Harley Cameron

Cameron came to the ring in gear, paying homage to DC’s upcoming Supergirl film.

Shafir ambushed Cameron mid-entrance, but couldn’t keep it up as she fell prey to a dropkick and flying crossbody. Catching Cameron on the top turnbuckle, Shafir flung her over with a Death Valley Driver. The Death Rider peppered her opponent with kicks. Cameron caught some luck with a roundhouse kick and a splash in the corner. Reinvigorated, Cameron barreled into Shafir, a mistake it seemed, as Shafir kneed her midsection. Cameron rebounded with a Single-Leg Boston Crab. Shafir snatched her in for a Rear Naked Choke, which Cameron pivoted into an inside cradle.

Match review: Cameron’s noticeably improved, and she seems to have regained her confidence after that botch that took out Penelope Ford months ago. That’s awesome, as was her gear and her upset win. Go Harley!

Mercedes Mone Forbidden Door vignette

Mone confidently laid out her motivations for winning the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Regardless of Maya World’s winning streak or recent tragedies, the CEO seemed to indicate she was looking past World.

Will Ospreay defeated El Phantasmo

Phantasmo tied up Ospreay after multiple standstills, but instead, both men wriggled out of each strike and grappling. Each stalemate left Phantasmo feeling cocky, leaving him unaware of Ospreay’s dropkick and crossbody outside. A moonsault tilted the trajectory of the match towards Phantasmo’s advantage.

Ospreay snuck in a Stundog Millionaire, to which Phantasmo countered with a stunner. The pair went back and forth with punches until Ospreay struck with a forearm. A flurry of moves transpired, with Ospreay snapping in a Spanish Fly. Phantasmo subverted Ospreay’s Hidden Blade into a roll-up. Ospreay finished him off with a Hidden Blade.

Match review: This was a thrill ride. Had it not been for the New Mexico crowd and arena, I would’ve mistaken this for a match at Korakuen Hall or Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall. Ospreay confidently drew from his NJPW roots.

Swerve Strickland defeated Daniel Garcia

Strickland anchored Garcia to the mat following a slap to the face, resulting in a stomp to the midsection. Garcia screamed in agony as Strickland raked his fingernails down his back. The young Death Rider slipped Strickland into the ring curtain to weaken the leg. Outside, things looked dire for Strickland, but a House Call connected, dropping Garcia into the barricade.

Garcia ducked a Swerve Stomp, zeroing in on the softened leg. Strickland bounced back with a brainbuster. Enduring a procession of insults, an irate Garcia decapitated Strickland with a lariat. Garcia slipped in an Ankle Lock, which Stricland evaded with an elbow. Strickland devastated Garcia with a Powerslam. Readying for another House Call, Strickland collapsed on his weak leg. However, he managed to puncture Garcia with another House Call. Strickland mocked Will Ospreay, wounding Garcia with a Hidden Blade for the pinfall.

Post-match: Strickland tied up Garcia, ready to hurt him some more. Ospreay dashed in to his aid. Before he could unleash a Hidden Blade, Prince Nana tripped him up. Strickland sought a Vertebreaker, but Garcia sacrificed himself for it instead.

Match preview: These two wrestled like they knew each other inside and out. Moreover, this polished Garcia up quite nicely with these nearfalls.

Team MJF promo

A quick vignette for Mark Briscoe played. Don Callis boasted all of the roster for Team MJF under his employ, where most of the members took turns speaking. MJF denied Andrade El Idolo a chance to speak. Both MJF and Callis barked at Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta to leave. They then celebrated with a risque portrait of themselves in Speedos, much to the Don Callis Family’s disgust.

Zack Sabre Jr defeated Jack Perry

Sabre gravitated Perry to the mat, evading most of Perry’s offense. Contorting Perry’s limbs, Sabre looked as though he didn’t even break a sweat. Cranking back Perry’s arms, Sabre wrestled to excruciate the shoulders. Perry shocked Sabre by flipping pinfall attempts into a crucifix pin. Perry avoided an arm lock, pushing Sabre into the ring post.

Sabre took advantage of Perry’s hubris to torment him with a cross-armbreaker. Referee Bryce Remsburg snarled at him to relinquish the hold and bring the match back to the ring. This allowed Perry a comeback courtesy of an Orihara Moonsault. Perry, with one arm, powerbombed Sabre to escape a triangle choke. A snare trap pinkened Sabre’s face, yet he wrenched control to twist Perry’s weak arm. Perry retaliated with a lariat and a powerbomb. Bending Perry’s knee and tearing the shoulder ligaments, Sabre forced him to submit.

Match review: Perry matched much better than I expected with Sabre. It was a foregone conclusion, but he got to show off some decent technical wrestling.

Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) defeated TMDK (Bad Dude Tito & Mikey Nicholls)

The Bucks overwhelmed TMDK with reactive offense, culminating in tope suicidas. The Jacksons attempted a splash, but Nicholls tripped up Matt on the top rope, and Tito caught Nick. Matt, though isolated from Nick, battled his way through with superkicks. Nick bounced Tito and Nicholls’s heads together. The Bucks sprayed TMDK with more superkicks. A BTE Driver to Nicholls ended the match.

Post-match: TMDK, with Zack Sabre Jr, bullied the Bucks. Kenny Omega and Jack Perry sprinted out to brawl with Sabre. Tito evicted Sabre to safety, eluding a BTE Trigger.

Thekla promo vignette

The Toxic Spider highlighted her gripes with Stardom and Taro Okada. She posited the same would happen to Starlight Kid, and she promised to defeat her at Forbidden Door.

Queen Aminata defeated Red Velvet

Despite her best efforts, Velvet couldn’t quite get a solid grasp on Aminata for long. The Queen suplexed her soundly on the mat. Aminata continued to fling Velvet around, threatening a headbutt. Velvet superplexed Aminata from the top rope. A scissor kick crashed Aminata down once more.

Velvet bounced back with a bulldog and a vertical suplex. Aminata faceplanted Velvet and crashed with her Off-With-Her-Head Kick. Velvet vaulted Aminata with a Casadora and frog splash. Aminata collided with another Off-With-Her-Head Kick that bounced Velvet off the ropes. The pinfall victory then went to Aminata.

Cage & Cope accidentally interrupted the Young Bucks

The Bucks promised to bring their A-game at Forbidden Door. Before they could go any further, Cage & Cope battered The Dogs across backstage. David Finlay choked Adam Copeland with a cable, as did Clark Connors to Christian Cage. The Dogs proceeded to do the 5-Second Pose, with Finlay wearing Y2K-era sunglasses.

Konosuke Takeshita (c) defeated Ricochet for the AEW International Championship

Ricochet flung the cloak from his entrance gear to Takeshita. Refusing to lift his foot from the pedal, Ricochet blasted the wind from the champ’s midsection via 450-Splash. He followed this up with a running Shooting Star Press. Takeshita, surviving the onslaught by Ricochet, charged; Ricochet redirected him outside and rocketed the champ back out with a dropkick.

Takeshita caught Ricochet mid-Shooting Star Press, tossing him back with an Exploder Suplex. Ricochet tried a springboard back elbow, which Takeshita caught and usurped with a Blue Thunderbomb. Swift as his kicks may have been, Ricochet was no match for the suplexes by Takeshita. Stealing Takeshita’s Raging Fire, Ricochet gasped in astonishment at the resulting nearfall. Another Shooting Star Press threatened to dethrone Takeshita. Ricochet miraculously landed on his feet after a suplex from the top.

Hoping for a knee strike, Takeshita nearly took out Ricochet. Pulling Referee Paul Turner in front, Ricochet slipped in a Rico-sault. Takeshita took off Ricochet’s head with a lariat and an exposed knee. One Raging Fire later, and Takeshita retained the AEW International Championship.

Match review: Deserving of the main event, given the in-ring acumen of the champion and challenger. Takeshita turning a hot start into a threatened middle, before bouncing back thundrously, was a thrilling end to this match.

Mark Briscoe spoke

Reminiscing about the recent team-ups the Conglomeration has had, Briscoe shifted focus to an important stipulation. Namely, an upcoming AEW World Championship title shot. Furthermore, he claimed that MJF and the Don Callis Family didn’t love each other as the Conglomeration, Darby Allin, and Konosuke Takeshita do. Members of the Don Callis Family, Conglomeration, Darby Allin, and Konosuke Takeshita took turns charging the ring and attacking the other team. Andrade El Idolo held Briscoe at bay for MJF to swing his Dynamite Diamond Ring, but missed and hit Idolo. Briscoe hit MJF with a Jay Driller.

Final Thoughts

Not a bad go-home show for Forbidden Door. Though I would’ve happily accepted more international talent from AEW’s partners, tonight was fun enough. Harley Cameron with an upset win, Queen Aminata progressing in the Survival of the Fittest. The TMDK use was top-notch. Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay continue to sink deeper into moral hedonism.

Most of the matches on the Forbidden Door card heated up quite well tonight. Here’s to hoping they stick the landing in a time when many face visa issues. They’ve certainly made the most of what they’ve been given. The main event definitely showcased that heart, but the post-match events and brawl could have been cut. The feud is largely uninteresting, and this went way too long.
