Becky Lynch Becomes #AndNEW Women’s I.C. Champion In Controversial Fashion at WrestleMania 42

The war between Becky Lynch and AJ Lee was never about the Women’s Intercontinental Championship: it was always about who reigned supreme over WWE as its top woman. Lynch, time and again, felt unappreciated after all she’s done by being “The Man” and carrying this division into the best period it has ever seen in WWE History, taking exception to the fact that it seemed like AJ Lee swooped in and took over what she built. At WrestleMania 42, these two finally let their disdain for each other out.

Lee said Lynch is taking this wrong, and that she’s full of himself, as every woman who stepped inside those ropes contributed to the WWE Women’s Division and what it is today. The time for talk has come and gone as both women stepped onto the WrestleMania 42 stage. Becky Lynch had an amazing entrance, getting played out to the ring by the Wonder Years.

The champion would not be outdone, enlisting the help of the AJ Lee fans dressed in her gear, as they skipped to the ring. Funnily enough, Jessika Carr was the official put on this match, a referee that Lynch has had major issues with, and her involvement would be a huge talking point. Lynch was in control for most of the match, but she decided to get into a shoving match with Jessika Carr, leading to AJ Lee hitting the Manhandle Slam and a near-fall.

Lee would go for the Black Widow submission. Lynch would counter with a hair pull that the referee did not see. A scuffle between Lynch and Lee would lead to the referee getting sandwiched in between them in the ring corner, leading to Jessika Carr getting gassed for a bit. Lynch would see the opportunity and smash AJ’s face into the exposed turnbuckle that Becky had untied early in the match.

Lynch would not let this one slip away, hitting the Manhandle Slam to become a three-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Whatever you think of her, Lynch’s win-at-all-costs attitude has made her one of the best ever. “The Man” is your #AndNEW WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
