WWE SmackDown Results (4/17/26):
To begin the night, we see Pat McAfee and Randy Orton roll up to the arena before SmackDown GM Nick Aldis talks to them, handing over a mysterious contract to McAfee, which he wants to read himself. Orton left them to it and headed over to the ring to talk to the WWE Universe.
Orton went hard tonight, saying that he didn’t need Pat McAfee, but he sure wanted him. He reminded him of who he was, especially when Cody Rhodes selfishly tried to shoehorn himself into the WWE Title picture over and over, when Orton was ready for Drew McIntyre and was unapologetic about what he would do to him.
Instead, Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Title back and even gave Randy “permission” to tap into the voices when he knew he didn’t need it. Orton said he always stood by Cody’s side, whether it was against The Bloodline or Kevin Owens, but Rhodes only “takes.”
Tomorrow night, Orton is going to be the one to do the taking and rebuild his legacy by winning his 15th title with an RKO. Orton would ride off with McAfee, and Pat was ecstatic with Nick Aldis after reviewing that mystery contract, and they drove off.
8-Man Street Fight
MFT finally settles it with The Wyatt Sicks as they go unhinged in Sin City in a multi-man Street Fight. Anything went, and that it did. We saw steel chairs, kendo sticks, suicide dives, and towering monsters like Erick Rowan and Talla Tonga go at it.
From the jump, the MFT didn’t even wait for The Wyatt Sicks to settle in, as they went after them. At one point, despite not even being in the match, Tonga Loa was nailed by a Cross Body by Nikki Cross. In the closing moments of the match, Uncle Howdy had MFT dead to rights before Tama Tonga would intervene.
Tama was about to hit Cut Throat, but Solo Sikoa would take the glory for himself, hitting the Samoan Spike on Uncle Howdy, with a stunned Tama Tonga looking on, as they celebrated this huge win.
Backstage:
- We see R-Truth and Damian Priest talk about their challengers as the two shared a laugh.
- The Miz and Maryse renew their vows, but Danhausen crashed the wedding and cursed them, leading to Maryse tumbling into the wedding cake.
Fatu Goes Off
Back from break, we see a police patrol car drive into the arena, and an amazing statement was made as Jacob Fatu came out of the backseat and stood on top of the police car.
Jacob stood on business, saying that McIntyre tried to embarrass him by cuffing him, but he’s not ashamed of who he was, because he has changed. And at WrestleMania 42, no amount of authority can stop Jacob from doing what he plans to do to Drew McIntyre.
Once he’s done with McIntyre, Drew will be like his past: in the rearview mirror, claiming he’ll dogwalk McIntyre all over Vegas.
Backstage:
- Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair focus on their match tonight to gain momentum ahead of WrestleMania 42, recalling the good times they had in 2025 and the 2026 they’re about to have.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
R-Truth and Damian Priest defend the WWE Tag Team Championship against Kofi Kingston and Grayson Waller. Kingston and Waller stood no chance as R-Truth and Priest ran like a well-oiled machine. In vintage Ron Cena fashion, R-Truth, along with Damain, hit stereo Five-Knuckle Shuffles.
The champs ended this match with a Catapult Flapjack, with Priest pinning Waller to retain.
Jade Cargill Speaks
Ahead of her WrestleMania 42 showdown with Rhea Ripley, WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill makes her final remarks before the big day. The interaction was short as Rhea Ripley would crash Cargill’s party, saying she’s growing impatient and she’s tired of a “narcissistic b*tch” like Cargill hiding and ducking her.
Jade said she’s not scared of an emo goth kid that wants to be her. Ripley, with so much intensity, said she doesn’t want to be her; she’s ready to end her at WrestleMania 42.
Women’s United States Title – No. 1 Contender’s Match
Tiffany Stratton looks to finally lay claim to be the one to challenge Giulia as she and Jordynne Grace fight for the number one contender’s spot for the Women’s U.S. Title. With Women’s United States Champion Giulia and Kiana James looking on, Stratton slayed the “Juggernaut” Grace to become the number one contender in an extremely well-contested match.
Trick Williams Makes His Presence Felt
Before his first WrestleMania, Trick Williams says his final words en route to his United States Title Match against Champion Sami Zayn. Trick talked about it, taking exception to Zayn delivering a Helluva Kick to Lil Yachty last week, calling him a Gingerbread Man, and they need to do this tonight.
Appropriately enough, an actual Gingerbread Man would come to the ring, as Trick mocked Sami. The real Sami Zayn would come out, saying that he’s puzzled why everyone treats Trick like he’s the future, when he’s unimpressive and just a “punk rookie,” and Zayn will expose him at ‘Mania 42.
Trick clapped back, saying he is the future, and he’s the man who can actually get it done, unlike Zayn. The two got physical, with Trick hightailing out of the ring. An unhinged Sami Zayn would hit the Gingerbread Man with a Helluva Kick before Trick laid him out with a Trick Kick.
Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria
One last match before WrestleMania 42, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria go at it to gain momentum heading into their 4-Way Women’s Tag Team Title Match. Before the match could take place, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Irresistible Forces, decimated both teams, making a statement before their title defense, resulting in the match never officially restarting.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
We go big with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The ring is already filled as Royce Keys and Joe Hendy make their way to complete the field, as all chaos ensued. It was a sea of talent, with the likes of Psycho Clown and La Parka from AAA joining the party.
We saw Kit Wilson get eliminated first, proving that the Danhausen curse is very much real. It was hectic, but the best of the best would come out as the final four in the closing moments of this match. Once it was all said and done, the recently debuted Royce Keys would fulfill his promise and become the 2026 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes Ends the Night
For the final time before his Undisputed WWE Title defense against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42 – Night 1, the “American Nightmare” airs out his grievances. Rhodes was ready for battle, and he was aware that this was a tough one, with people even bringing up the 2009 version of Randy Orton.
Cody said he was there, and if he remembered it correctly, that version of Orton lost his title match at that year’s WrestleMania. Before Cody could continue further, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk would visit SmackDown.
The two made jokes, with Cody asking if Punk is here to low blow him like his other “friends.” CM Punk remarked on Cody wearing a bowtie for the Hall of Fame later tonight, and Punk pointed out he hasn’t worn a suit on WWE TV since Teddy Long got married and Jagged Edge was on SmackDown.
Punk said he wasn’t there to cause harm; he was here to congratulate Cody and remind him that he helped build this kingdom, and he’s accomplished things Punk could only dream of, and he shouldn’t be speaking about a “tourist” in their industry, referring to Pat McAfee.
Punk would continue and praise Cody, and Rhodes returned the favor, saying it’s quite the sightseeing them both as champions and fulfilling their promises. Cody said that an argument could be made Sunday night if Punk wins as the new Mr. WrestleMania, joining the likes of Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage.
Rhodes would continue and say that if it meant anything, Punk fulfilled a promise once, and he knows a certain someone, his father, Dusty Rhodes, would be proud of CM Punk.
The two would exchange hugs before Punk announced that they’re celebrating tonight because the titles they held were also for the people, as SmackDown ended, and we see Cody Rhodes and CM Punk go through the crowd and celebrate with the Las Vegas crowd.
That’s all for REAL-TIME WWE SmackDown results for April 17, 2026, live from the home of WrestleMania 42, Las Vegas, Nevada, as they happened in the T-Mobile Arena.
