#3. CM Punk Goes Low to Defeat Roman Reigns and Retain the World Heavyweight Championship
WWE seldom does babyface vs. babyface feuds, but they made an exception for Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk. Given the personal nature of their feud, the heel and babyface dynamics are heavily blurred. However, Punk may have crossed the line more frequently. For example, invoking the late Sika Anoa’i’s name disrespectfully felt out of touch for a babyface champion.
This past week on RAW, Punk also admitted his jealousy. The OTC has also had Punk’s number in the past. We also saw the Straight Edge Superstar lose his cool when Reigns called him old. Therefore, the World Heavyweight Champion has shown clear signs of a character change.
A desperate Punk could resort to dirty and unfair tactics to keep the World Title at Mania. The low blow has been effective in such circumstances. The Second City Saint was excellent as a heel in his prime. A heel turn could help him stay at the top and add a new layer to his rivalry with the OTC.
