WWE WrestleMania 42 is just around the corner. Despite a messy, uncertain, and underwhelming build, WWE has put together a solid, star-studded card. Less than a month ago, Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Gunther, two of the company’s biggest assets, were without a clear direction for Mania.
Injuries and creative miscalculations were partly to blame. Nonetheless, Rollins vs. Gunther was made official less than 3 weeks ago on RAW at Madison Square Garden. The Ring General ambushed the Visionary, saving Paul Heyman and setting up a massive dream match for the Show of Shows.
Although it felt like a random move, WWE was smart to pair Rollins and Gunther together. Although they only had 2 weeks to build a storyline, both men did a commendable job of creating hype for their match. The Career Killer will meet the Visionary at WrestleMania Saturday, and fans are excited.
On that note, let’s look at 4 finishes for Gunther vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42.

#4. Gunther Puts Seth Rollins to Sleep at WrestleMania 42
Over the last 12 months, Gunther has retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles. He truly has grown into “The Career Killer,” making a legacy out of destroying veterans at the tail end of their careers. His last defeat came at SummerSlam 2025.
With the run he has been on, Gunther has all the momentum heading into WrestleMania 42, but he also has more to lose. Losing to the Visionary would damage his aura and derail his momentum. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wise to bet against the Ring General at WrestleMania Saturday.
Furthermore, the 2 time World Heavyweight Champion has already put Seth Rollins to sleep at Madison Square Garden. Gunther also declared that his feud with Rollins was personal, giving him more reason to put Rollins down at Mania.
Also, Rollins technically got the last laugh in their final confrontation on RAW. If history is any indication, WWE is clearly setting Gunther up for a significant win at the Show of Shows. Given that he has already put Rollins to sleep, the Career Killer could march to a clean win following a hard-fought battle.
#3. Seth “Freakin” Rollins Steals the Win at WrestleMania 42
Gunther is fighting to prove that he is better than Seth “Freakin” Rollins. However, Rollins’ motivations are deeper and more significant. The Visionary is on a mission to destroy the Vision and seek revenge on Paul Heyman. Unfortunately, he faced an unexpected obstacle in the Ring General.
Therefore, the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion has more to gain, and a win would take him closer to his ultimate goal of ending the Vision. Nonetheless, Gunther is one of WWE’s most protected assets. As mentioned previously, the Career Killers’ stock would take a hit with a clean loss to Rollins.
However, WWE could protect Gunther in defeat by having Rollins “steal” the win. A roll-up and pull of the tights is an effective strategy. Not only would such a finish give Rollins the win, but it would also protect the Ring General. Alternatively, the Visionary could utilize the same strategy he used with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35.
Rollins went low on Lesnar during the match, shifting the tide in his favor. The Architect of the Shield followed that up with several Curb Stomps to conquer the Beast. WWE could run a repeat at WrestleMania Saturday between Rollins and Gunther.
#2. Seth Rollins vs. Gunther Ends with a Disqualification
This is a finish no one wants, but WWE has booked such anti-climactic finishes for marquee matches at WrestleMania. For example, Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice for the WWE Championship at Mania 8 ended in a disqualification win for Hogan. The ending was designed to protect the Hulkster and set up the Ultimate Warrior’s return.
We could argue all night about who the better wrestler is and who needs the win more. However, the discussion should acknowledge that Seth Rollins and Gunther are two of WWE’s most priceless assets. Both men will have important roles to play after Mania 42. Moreover, a loss would reflect badly on their resume.
Although it is an unlikely scenario, the predicament of protecting both stars could prompt HHH to book a no-contest. Given the hatred that has developed over the last 2 weeks, the animosity could grow out of the referee’s control. Rollins is known to be a hot head, and he could blast Gunther with a chair. This would result in a disqualification win for the Ring General.
#1. Bron Breakker Returns to Cost Seth “Freakin” Rollins
The original direction was for Seth “Freakin” Rollins to battle Bron Breakker at WrestleMania 42, but Breakker suffered an untimely injury. However, the Unpredictable Badass’s return feels imminent, and it may happen as soon as Mania Saturday.
The Visionary was indirectly responsible for costing Breakker the Men’s Royal Rumble. Both men are looking for revenge and have a bone to pick with each other. However, Rollins is preoccupied with Gunther, giving his former protege the ideal setting to make an impact and stake his claim.
Thus, Breakker could make a surprise return at Mania Saturday and cost Rollins his match against the Ring General. In this way, the Visionary is protected in defeat, and WWE cleverly sets up a future match between Breakker and Rollins.
