3 Reasons Why Gunther Vs. Seth Rollins is the Right Call For WrestleMania 42

WrestleMania 42 is less than a month away. Only a handful of weeks of WWE programming remain till The Grandest Stage of Them, yet two of the company’s biggest assets are without a clear direction. Gunther and Seth “Freakin” Rollins currently do not have a match listed for Mania 42.

In Gunther’s case, the Ring General hasn’t been seen on WWE TV in three weeks. Media outlets reported that he was scheduled to battle Rey Mysterio at The Show of Shows, but Mysterio’s injury has put that match in doubt. In contrast, Rollins’ case is more nuanced. The Visionary returned at Elimination Chamber to eradicate the Vision.

However, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, the two men who betrayed him, are both sidelined with injury. Furthermore, Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman’s greatest weapon, is also preoccupied with Oba Femi. In the meantime, the Visionary has continued his feud with the Oracle.

Nonetheless, WWE could create the best out of an undesirable situation by booking Gunther vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins at WrestleMania 42. On that note, let’s delve into three reasons why Triple H should book the Ring General vs. the Visionary.

#3. WrestleMania Needs Marquee Matches Like Gunther vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins

WrestleMania is considered “The Showcase of Immortals.” WWE typically saves the biggest showdowns for Mania, which explains the company’s decision to book massive matches like Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi and Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk.

However, WWE finds itself in a difficult position this year.  John Cena and AJ Styles, two of the company’s all-time greats, recently retired. Furthermore, prominent stars like Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Rey Mysterio, and Bianca Belair are injured. Consequently, the roster lacks depth and quality, reducing the scope for booking marquee matches.

Fortunately, Triple H has two major stars unscheduled for Mania. Gunther and Seth Rollins are two of the biggest names on the current roster. Both men have impressive resumes and generate strong reactions from the crowd. Moreover, they have never battled one-on-one at a big stage like Mania.

All of these factors together create the recipe for a colossal dream match. Gunther vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins is a bona fide dream match that adds depth and serious star power to the WrestleMania card.

#2. Paul Heyman Needs to Solve the Seth Rollins Problem

From a storyline perspective, Paul Heyman needs to eradicate Seth “Freakin” Rollins. The Oracle has gotten a restraining order, but that is unlikely to provide him with long-term immunity. To solve the Rollins problem, Heyman needs a permanent solution.

Enter Gunther, who has recently been on a tear as “The Career Killer.” AJ Styles and John Cena have already fallen to the Career Killer. Although Gunther is unlikely to retire Rollins, it would be intriguing to witness a storyline where such an angle can be explored.

Brock Lesnar is dealing with Oba Femi, and the Vision is chasing the Tag Team Championships. That leaves Heyman with a limited set of options. However, the Oracle is an excellent negotiator, and the Hall of Famer can shake hands with the Career Killer.

#1. A Long-term Feud Between Rollins and Gunther Has Tremendous Storytelling Potential

Gunther and Seth “Freakin” Rollins represent two different styles and philosophies. The Ring General is pretty old school. The mat is sacred for him, and he is disciplined with his assaults. In contrast, this new version of Rollins is extremely chaotic and relies extensively on psychological warfare.

In professional wrestling, some of the greatest storylines and matches have come from such striking contrasts in style. Think back to Daniel Bryan fighting against The Authority, and Brock Lesnar’s dream encounters with the likes of AJ Styles.

Gunther vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins will not just be a tale of contrasting styles and massive egos. Still, it will also address the philosophical battle of the true meaning of professional wrestling.
