Did Damian Priest and R-Truth Retain Their WWE Tag Team Championship on 4/3 SmackDown?

The March 20, 2026, episode of Friday Night SmackDown saw a very surprising title change. Damian Priest and R-Truth captured the WWE Tag Team Championships in a great match against MFT. Since then, MFT has been in a downward spiral with tensions rising over the Wyatt Sicks’ lantern. It was an unexpected title change, but now Priest and R-Truth were going to have to defend the titles and prove that their pairing would be successful.

On the April 3 SmackDown, their opponents were revealed in a conversation between the two of them backstage. Kit Wilson and The Miz were taking them on because R-Truth knew that Danhausen had cursed them over the last couple of weeks. Would it be an easy retention, as R-Truth said, or would they lose their titles after two weeks?

Danhausen’s Curse Leads to a Priest and R-Truth Retention

The last few weeks haven’t been good to The Miz and Wilson. They are two of the many people whom Danhausen has cursed since he arrived at the Elimination Chamber. That has led to many mishaps, including Wilson losing to Jelly Roll. Would their luck finally start to change?

R-Truth started the match with Wilson. They hit each other, before Wilson hit him with a shoulder uppercut and tagged in The Miz. After more kicks, he knocked The Miz to the ground, but got kicked after doing the “You Can’t See Me” taunt. Wilson bounced him off the ropes, leading to another kick by The Miz to the outside. Another shoulder uppercut knocked him down, but he got up and tagged in Priest.

He slammed them to the ground and gave them shoulder uppercuts. Wilson made the save after a pin attempt, but got kicked in the face after trying the Tourni-Kit. Priest tagged in R-Truth, who tried to do the Attitude Adjustment on The Miz but failed.

Danhausen’s music hit, and he made his way to the ring. After R-Truth tagged him in, he cursed the referee due to The Miz dodging the curse. Wilson got dropped by an Attitude Adjustment before The Miz gave him a Skull Crushing Finale, but the referee couldn’t count to three due to his arm not working. Another argument occurred, allowing Priest to hit South of Heaven for the pinfall victory.

Once again, Danhausen was a factor in an important victory. For The Miz and Wilson, another confrontation with Danhausen is a certainty. But for Priest and R-Truth, they successfully retained their championships. If they keep working together, their team will definitely be a success.
