Vikingo must win the WWE Intercontinental Championship before WWE WrestleMania 42 to stand any chance of appearing on the show.
El Hijo Del Vikingo was the shining jewel as WWE revealed its purchase of AAA during WWE WrestleMania 41 weekend last year.
But things haven’t turned out as El Hijo del Vikingo would’ve hoped. He won the AAA Mega Championship from Alberto El Patron shortly after WWE bought AAA. But the fans in Mexico rejected him as champion, feeling the new owners had handed him the title.
His title reign ended up being short-lived.
Vikingo has claimed he will leave AAA. Backed by Omos, he has set his sights on heading to WWE with gold already around his waist.
Penta vs. Vikingo on April 11th
Vikingo talked Penta into putting the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line against him on April 11, 2026. The two will battle at AAA Lucha Libre Worldwide.
If Vikingo loses, he has nothing. It also continues a worrying trend. Vikingo lost his last match when he unsuccessfully challenged Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship. Vikingo was hoping to avenge his loss to Mysterio at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide from September.
Simply put, he can’t keep losing. WWE might offer Vikingo a job on WWE Raw. But if he turns up having already had high-profile losses to Mysterio and Penta, Danhausen will wonder if he’d forgotten having already cursed him. Vikingo needs to win on April 11.
A Win For WWE WrestleMania 42
A Vikingo victory would also have major implications for WWE WrestleMania 42. Penta is set to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a multi-man ladder match. Rusev, Je’Von Evans, JD McDonagh and Dragon Lee are the men who will challenge Penta in the ladder match.
This will no doubt be a high-flying and fun match, but it could do with another body. Adding Vikingo to the mix reminds fans of WWE’s acquisition of AAA and helps to promote that brand.
From a WWE perspective, adding Vikingo to the mix puts someone in the match who can do a springboard single-foot 630 splash. Now, nothing will get social media attention like that during WWE WrestleMania 42.
Well, unless The Rock shows up.
