Calling the last seven days chaotic would be an understatement. Elimination Chamber 2026 in Chicago brought us a new champion, a few new contenders, and a much-cleared road to WrestleMania 42, after the wars that ensued inside WWE’s most dangerous structure. However, the things that went down inside the Chamber have led to WWE officials looking to correct their mistakes, which leads us to this Friday Night Fight Night, and a huge title match in the main event of the evening. On tonight’s SmackDown, every segment and match has championship implications, further heating up proceedings for the “Granddaddy of them All.” If you thought you had to wait for WrestleMania to have more exciting action, you need to tune in tonight. WWE SmackDown Results (3/6/26):
The winner of the 2026 Men’s Elimination Chamber, the “Apex Predator” Randy Orton, begins SmackDown in Portland, Oregon, making his way to the ring to speak to the WWE Universe.
Orton would get down right to it, saying he’s been at WrestleMania more than a couple of times. Still, he realized that he’s only main-evented twice, making this Undisputed WWE Title headliner at ‘Mania all the more sweeter.
Randy would then go on a story of how people say he belongs in an elite class, with the likes of Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Harley Race, with JBL at commentary in the past consistently telling the audience that if someone were to build the perfect wrestler, it would look like Randy Orton.
The point of this is, Orton is humble that people viewed him as such and still view him as elite; he’s proud, considering the excellent talent that he steps in the ring with every night. Orton also said that, regardless of whether it’s Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre,” he’s not walking out of Las Vegas without the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Trick Williams would enter the building, saying he also has voices in his head, and they’re telling him he has issues with Orton. Trick would push his luck a lot more, stepping into the ring with Orton before getting dropped with an RKO.
U.S. Open Challenge
United States Champion Carmelo Hayes once again holds a U.S. Open Challenge against a mystery opponent. A huge star from AAA would challenge Carmelo. And despite catching the champion off guard, Hayes proved to everyone why he’s “H1M,” retaining the United States Championship by hitting Nothing But Net.
Backstage:
- We saw The Miz confront Ilja Dragunov, claiming it’s unthinkable that he would refuse a United States Title Match that was offered to him, and they briefly got into it.
- In tonight’s “Tag Team Turmoil” to crown the #1 Contender for the WWE Tag Team Championship, Nick Aldis informed R-Truth and Damian Priest that they will be a team tonight.
- Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre said Aldis needs to make this right because they had an agreement. Nick said Drew went back on his word, so he’ll defend the title unless he wants to forfeit it. McIntyre made it clear Cody will have to pry the title from his “cold, dead” hands.
Irresistible Forces WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Celebration
With a new tag team entrance music, the #AndNEW WWE Women’s Champions, the Irresistible Forces, walk into Portland to celebrate their victory last week over RHIYO. Lash Legend and Nia Jax would make something clear; they’re the most dominant champions ever to hold the gold, and they’re prepared to defend it against anyone and everyone.
The two would toast in the middle of the ring before getting interrupted by former champs Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Flair and Bliss still have an axe to grind, reminding the Irresistible Forces that they were the reason Bliss and Flair were the ones who cost them the title in the first place.
Giulia and Kiana James would interject, saying they plan on going to WrestleMania 42 one way or another. Nick Aldis would come out, sanctioning a #1 contender’s match between Bliss and Flair versus Giulia and James.
After an intensely contested match, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss came out as the new number one contenders.
Tag Team Turmoil
To crown the number one contender for the WWE Tag Team Championship, multiple teams run the gauntlet, beginning with the Motor City Machine Guns and Fraxiom. This match was marred by controversy, with the unceremonious elimination of MCMG due to the interference of MFT.
Los Garza was the standout team for this Tag Team Turmoil, but their efforts weren’t enough as the odd couple pairing of Damian Priest and R-Truth would become number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Rhea Ripley Confronts Jade Cargill
Rhea Ripley, looking as confident as ever, storms down to SmackDown to go eye-to-eye with the WWE Women’s Champion. Jade Cargill. Both women said they respected each other, admiring each other’s physical prowess. That said, Cargill knows she has far more to offer in terms of strength than Rhea.
Riplet’s rebuttal was absolute, saying that Cargill may hit her with her best shot, but she won’t go down. But if Rhea hits Jade with hers, she won’t get back up. Rhea would land the killing blow by saying Jade built her body for show, while Ripley built hers for war, to survive and thrive in this business, and she’ll use it to beat “that b&tch,” before dropping the mic.
Johnny Gargano’s Open Challenge
Johnny Gargano, along with his wife Candice LeRae, stormed to the ring. Gargano said he’s sick and tired of being depressed, and he wants to prove to everyone that he’s still got it, ensure that no one forgets he’s still Johnny Wrestling, and he demands a challenger for tonight.
Oba Femi would answer the call. Still in street clothes, Johnny Gargano would get mauled by Femi with Running Uppercuts in the corner, before getting hit by a Puff Puff Toss. A once-inspired Gargano would come back crashing down, literally and figuratively, with a Fall From Grace, as Femi picks up the easy win.
Backstage:
- Michin confronts Jade Cargill, saying she wants her pound of flesh. Cargill said she’s done talking and she’ll see Michin next week.
- Danhausen rolls up to SmackDown, talking to Nick Aldis about his demands. Aldis said he knows the right person who can teach Danhausen the ways of WWE, pulling Miz into the picture, and letting him deal with Danhausen. Danhausen momentarily cursed The Miz, saying that if the A-Lister doesn’t give in to his demands, that curse will stay, and he should remember what happened to Dominik Mysterio.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match
Cody Rhodes’ last chance to get to WrestleMania 42 is coming up as he challenges Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship. It was a war between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. McIntyre had Rhodes on more than one occasion. However, one fatal mistake that a desperate McIntyre would cost him the Undisputed WWE Championship.
In one fell swoop, Cody Rhodes would hit the Cross Rhodes and become the #AndNEW Undisputed WWE Champion, as he goes on to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.
