WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match

Finn Balor tries to go it alone, without The Judgment Day, as he challenges the hometown boy CM Punk once more for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

In a spectacular entrance, CM Punk would enter the United Center with the classic “Jordan-era” Chicago Bulls introduction music, getting his name announced by the Bulls’ legendary PA announcer, Ray Clay, before Cult of Personality would hit the airwaves.

Finn Balor was on another level tonight, overwhelming Punk, and focusing on his mid-section, leading the champion to bleed from the mouth. CM Punk would try to mount a comeback, leading it off with a Macho Man-like Elbow Drop.

Balor would not go away easily, hitting Punk with a Sling Blade to get him off his feet. Finn was positioning himself to hit the Shotgun Dropkick, but Punk would counter into an Anaconda Vise, which Balor would get out of. Balor would hit 1916, followed up by a Coup de Grace on the injured mid-section, and was a breath away from a three-count, with Punk choosing not to die.

Finn Balor thought about calling out The Judgment Day, but instead had Punk in the 1916 position again, only for Punk to counter it into a GTS. Fortunately for Balor, the impact led to him rolling on the outside, saving the match for the time being.

On the outside, Balor would go haywire, hitting a Sling Blade and a Shotgun Dropkick to Punk, destroying the ringside barricade. Punk would try to get one over Balor, hoisting him up for a GTS. Finn would get out of it, hitting yet another Sling Blade.

Balor would scale the ropes again, looking to put the nail in the coffin with a Coup de Grace, only for Punk to get the foot up and tie Balor into a Sharpshooter. Finn would get to the ropes to break up the hold. Balor could not take any more, and with one final Go-to-Sleep, CM Punk remains WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Balor would give him a nod, showing a measure of respect for CM Punk. In a heartfelt moment, new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion AJ Lee would join her husband, celebrating with all the gold.
