Creating New Matchups
While fans have grown tired of his long-standing “underdog” persona, they have also grown fatigued with another issue: the constant repetition of the same matchups.
Many fans feel Zayn has been trapped in a loop against a repetitive rotation of rivals, ranging from Gunther and Drew McIntyre to his former allies from “The Bloodline,” Roman Reigns and Jey Uso.
While a matchup between Zayn and Trick Williams is intriguing, many believe the dynamic is off. Williams carries a heel edge that fans love, while Zayn, the supposed babyface, is being booed. The story boils down to Zayn as the underachiever who can’t get the job done, while the newer, dominant Williams plays the role of his bully.
Despite the excitement around that match, a heel turn for Sami would open up a plethora of fresh storylines. With the seeds being planted last week between him and Rhodes, a feud featuring Zayn as the jealous heel fed up with Cody’s endless title shots could really work.
Another intriguing option is LA Knight. With his WrestleMania 42 plans still up in the air, a storyline between the two could be compelling. It could be framed as a battle between two stars who feel misplaced and misused by the company, with the winner earning a title shot shortly afterward.
