2. Edge Wins the World Heavyweight Championship (No Way Out 2009)
There was shock value at No Way Out 2009 as Edge failed to defend the WWE Championship in the curtain-raiser; he wasn’t going to leave without a world championship. As Kofi Kingston was about to enter the Chamber, Edge snuck up behind Kofi Kingston and attacked him. Edge locked himself into a pod, and Rey Mysterio attempted to remove the Rated-R Superstar from his pod.
Edge made history by becoming the first man to compete in two Elimination Chamber matches in one night. However, Edge brought the curtain down on John Cena’s World Heavyweight Championship reign after eliminating him with a Spear. The final two competitors left to do battle were Edge and his former tag team partner, Rey Mysterio. They had some good exchanges as expected, but Edge speared Mysterio to become an eight-time WWE World Champion.
1. Shawn Michaels Wins the World Heavyweight Championship (Survivor Series 2002)
The inaugural Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series 2002 was star-studded. Triple H defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Chris Jericho, Kane, and Rob Van Dam. Arguably, this Elimination Chamber match is the greatest in WWE history. That’s how good the match was.
Michaels and the Game were the final two, which made sense considering the two had been feuding since Michaels made his in-ring return at SummerSlam 2002. Both men were battered and bloodied, but Michaels kicked out of the Pedigree.
However, Michaels blocked the Pedigree again and connected with Sweet Chin Music to win the World Heavyweight Championship. The confetti fell on top of the new champion, who was serenaded by the Madison Square Garden crowd.
