He collected championships at a rate that no one can match, and after years of being a great heel, he finally got the babyface respect that he deserved. After a successful WrestleMania title defense, the world expected a regular championship promo from Edge. What we got was a gut punch when he told the world that he had to retire. An injury he had been dealing with had become too much, and he was no longer able to wrestle. Hearing that a career is over is always a heartbreaking thing, but to hear it happen in this manner was too much.

Mick Foley was the ultimate journeyman. He was a man who was told that wrestling was not for him and had to go to extreme lengths to get himself into the dance. When he broke into wrestling, he filled the niche character role and was never one earmarked for a World Championship run. It was an accolade that was never going to be realized for Mick Foley.
In a move that turned the tide of the Monday Night Wars, Mankind emerged victorious over The Rock, claiming his first WWE Championship. It was a moment in time that meant the world to everyone. The man who was told he would never become champion, a man who was a huge fan favourite, finally won the big one. For one night, he achieved the dream of everyone who has been told they can’t do it.
