Conclusion
January gave AEW a hot start, with returns, debuts, and excellent matches. To date, my favorite of the month was Bandido versus MJF for the Men’s World Championship. That title scene in particular is in such a good place that you can see multiple men working their way strategically up to that spot. Of course, there were low spots. Trey Miguel’s signing and almost immediate firing, as well as the releases of Matt Taven, Mercedes Martinez, and Alex Abrahantes, all put a dampener on things.
With that out of the way, nevertheless, I’m pumped for February. These stars have piqued my interest, and I’m keen to see where they go from here. My goal in this new series is to highlight just that—talent deserving of a spotlight for a month’s strong presentation. From lesser-positioned wrestlers to main event stars, I’m cataloguing what’s working and who to keep an eye on.
