2. Asuka Vs. Becky Lynch – 2019 & 2020
Ironically, the 2020 Royal Rumble wasn’t home to just one Royal Rumble rematch; it played host to two. The rarity of Royal Rumble rematches makes it even more surprising that two occurred on the same show. Becky Lynch defended the WWE (RAW) Women’s Championship against the “Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka.
Asuka aimed to become a double champion as she was one-half of the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Nevertheless, the first two women’s Royal Rumble match winners in 2018 and 2019, respectively, went toe-to-toe.
Lynch and Asuka contested a competitive championship match, with the Man retaining the title. However, a year prior at the 2019 Royal Rumble, the roles were reversed with Asuka entering as the reigning WWE (SmackDown) Women’s Champion and Lynch as the challenger. Their chemistry made their matches intriguing to watch.
Asuka prevailed, but their two matches at the Rumble were historic as it was the first Rumble in history to have a women’s rematch at the event, and a rematch period to happen in consecutive years. Both matches in 2019 and 2020 were physical affairs, but their first clash at the 2019 Rumble was marginally better.
