#2: The New Age Outlaws vs. The Legion of Doom (Royal Rumble 1998)
In late 1997, The Legion of Doom became tag team champions once again. When it seemed that all was great for Animal and Hawk, things changed drastically. Unexpectedly, a new tag team of Road Dogg and Billy Gunn came into the picture, making The Legion of Doom’s lives frustrating. By doing so, Dogg and Gunn cheated to win the WWE Tag Team Titles from Animal and Hawk. This victory led to a rematch at the 1998 Royal Rumble.
The match started with some heavy hitting from Animal and Hawk. Initially, the New Age Outlaws attempted to escape the match by trying to get counted out. Instead, Animal and Hawk chased them down to ensure there was a concise winning team. Unfortunately, New Age Outlaws gained the upper hand when they had Hawk handcuffed to the bottom rope, leaving Animal helpless.
New Age Outlaws delivered a massive beatdown on Animal, where they hit him with chairshots, leading to a disqualification finish. This was one of those tag team matches where the storytelling mattered a whole lot more than the match itself, as this tag team rivalry began to escalate.
