In 2003, Kurt Angle was the biggest star on WWE’s SmackDown brand along with Brock Lesnar. The two men dominated the blue brand’s main event picture, and Angle held the WWE Championship twice throughout that year. Because of his strong booking, the Olympic gold medalist had to be considered one of the favorites heading into the Royal Rumble match.
Angle was one of the many top stars who added star power to the Royal Rumble in the second half of the match. Entering the bout at #19, Angle was in the ring for nearly half an hour. He might’ve only eliminated one man, but it was one of the most dominant wrestlers in that Rumble: Goldberg.
What did Kurt Angle do at WrestleMania 20?
Kurt Angle unsuccessfully challenged Eddie Guerrero for the WWE Championship in one of the marquee matches at WrestleMania XX. Although Angle failed to win the 2004 Royal Rumble Match, he became the number one contender by winning a Triple Threat Match against John Cena and Big Show at No Way Out 2004.
