For the past couple of weeks, the discourse around the NXT Women’s North American Championship was high. On December 16, 2025, the champion, Blake Monroe, faced Thea Hail. In a controversial ending, Hail ended up becoming the new champion. That made Monroe angry, demanding a rematch. She got her wish with the match taking place at New Year’s Evil. However, before it started, things got out of control.
Monroe attacked Hail, leaving her in a weakened state. That led to Monroe being escorted from the building and an open challenge being declared. Who would accept the open challenge to become NXT Women’s North American Champion, potentially?
Izzi Dame Avenges Disappointing Loss to Become Champion
When Thea Hail made her entrance a second time, she was unaware of the chaos unfolding around her. Every woman in the division made her way to Hail, but Tatum Paxley scared everyone away with a chainsaw. However, her efforts made no difference in the end. Izzi Dame ran up behind Hail and started attacking her.
Shawn Spears threw referee Dallas Irvin into the ring, with Niko Vance demanding the bell be rung. She previously wrestled earlier in the night, losing to Paxley. Despite that, she came out ready to go, punching Hail and throwing her body against the turnbuckle. It seemed like Hail was lifeless, especially after Monroe attacked her.
But then she countered a slam to the mat with a DDT. That gave her a burst of energy as she countered with some kicks to Dame’s leg. Unfortunately, she couldn’t retain the roll-up pin. They traded some more offense, with Dame kicking Hail to the ground with a giant boot. That led to a kick out, and they battled once more. It seemed like things were even until Hail hit Dame with an Exploder.
Dame rolled out of the ring, and Hail dove right through the ropes into a chokeslam onto the announcer’s table. She rolled into the ring, and Dame sat herself on the top of one of the turnbuckles. Hail got onto the turnbuckle herself, trying to get her to tap with the Kimura Lock. Unfortunately, the maneuver allowed Dame to hit the Dame Over.

The count was applied, and Dame became the new NXT Women’s North American Champion. Hail fought real hard, but her efforts weren’t enough to remain champion. However, given the fact that it was an open challenge, she would want a proper rematch. Dame and the Culling should celebrate now, as there’s undoubtedly a lot of women waiting for a chance to compete for the title.
