The WWE Raw match card includes Becky Lynch vs. Maxxine Dupri

Veteran Savvy Leads to Another Women’s Intercontinental Championship Reign for Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch was adamant about one thing the last few weeks. She did not lose her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Maxxine Dupri. It was stolen from her. First, from an incompetent referee, and then by illegal interference from her biggest rival, AJ Lee. Lynch told anyone who would listen that there was no way she’d lose to Dupri in a fair fight, and on Monday Night, Sports Illustrated’s greatest female wrestler was right.

#AndNEW: Becky Lynch is Once Again a Champion

Becky Lynch worked her way to a title rematch and showcased every bit of why she is one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots. While Dupri continued to showcase her improvement in the ring, notably through moves she learned as a result of her training with Natalya, it was Lynch’s veteran savvy that won the day. Dupri controlled much of the match and held the physical edge, but it was Lynch’s cunning that ultimately made the difference. In the match’s final moments, Dupri locked on the ankle lock and looked to have things won as she continued to secure the hold even as Lynch fought out. But Becky Lynch used the ropes to her advantage and managed to get Dupri’s shoulders on the mat. The rookie didn’t realize, as she kept the hold on, that the referee was making the three-count. The bell rang, and Lynch gathered her gold, sneaking away with the victory.

The win marks Lynch’s second reign with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, with her first one lasting 163 days, the longest such reigns for the relatively new title. Dupri was just the third woman ever to hold the IC belt, and Becky Lynch, with her win on Monday, becomes the first-ever two-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
