3. Randy Orton Vs. Jeff Hardy – Royal Rumble 2008
Jeff Hardy was in dreamland when he defeated Triple H at Armageddon 2007 to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship. The Charismatic Enigma entered the 2008 Royal Rumble as the reigning Intercontinental Champion. However, the reigning WWE Champion, Randy Orton, was standing in his way, and the Age of Orton was upon us.
The MSG crowd was heavily backing Hardy to enter the record books, holding the WWE and Intercontinental Championships simultaneously. The Ultimate Warrior was the last person to achieve that feat, 18 years prior.
Orton dominated the match, but the crowd was giving Hardy some energy to get back into proceedings. However, the finish was outstanding as Hardy attempted the Twist of Fate, but the Legend Killer countered it into the RKO out of nowhere. The Legend Killer retained the WWE Championship in an entertaining title bout.
