Gunther Calls WWE Fans Hypocrites For Suddenly Loving John Cena After Years Of Booing Him

Gunther defeated John Cena on December 13 and ended his in-ring career. When he showed up on Monday Night Raw, a few days later, the audience booed him. Raw’s General Manager, Adam Pearce, also didn’t want him aroun,d so he sent him home.

A lot of fans believe Triple H and Co. made a mistake on Saturday night by having Cena tap out. These fans believe The Cenation Leader should’ve gone over as it was his final wrestling match, and he deserved to end his career on a high note.

Gunther Speaks On Fans Showing So Much Love To John Cena Towards The End Of His WWE Career

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, Gunther said he was amazed by the level of support John Cena received from the audience during his retirement tour. He noted that Cena was perhaps the most hated babyface on the roster in the last decade, but all of a sudden, fans started liking him because he was retiring.

“Sometimes it’s a little bit funny with fans to me because in this last run that Cena had, especially the second half of it, the connection people had to him was just amazing. I think I’ve never seen something like that before.

But it’s also funny when you think back… I don’t know, when was that? 10-15 years or something like that, maybe even longer, he was the most hated guy on the whole roster.

He was a babyface, but he went out there and he got booed everywhere he went. People complained that he got shoved down their throats. Here we are 10-15 years later and people act like it never happened, and the situation never existed. Now they all love him. Bit hypocritical if you ask me. But that’s what the fans are. Whatever is the flavor of the month, they jump on it.”

He said in a decade or so, fans will cry over his retirement as well, even though they ‘hate’ him right now.

Later in the interview, Gunther also said that these fans secretly like him, but right now, they’re “too proud” to show it publicly.
