1. Chris Jericho Vs. Shawn Michaels – No Mercy 2008
2008 was arguably the best year of Chris Jericho’s WWE career, rightfully becoming the 2008 WWE Superstar of the Year. Jericho’s heel turn was perfectly executed, reigniting his rivalry with Shawn Michaels. Jericho put Michaels’ face through the JeriTron. The misery didn’t end there for Michaels as Jericho accidentally punched Michaels’ wife in the face at SummerSlam 2008.
The World Heavyweight Championship featured in their rivalry after Jericho won a Championship Scramble at Unforgiven 2008 to become champion. Earlier in the night, Y2J took a beating from Michaels, but nothing halted Jericho from winning a world title. Their WrestleMania 19 match was iconic, but they managed to top it at No Mercy 2008.
Jericho and Michaels clashed in a ladder match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both were ladder match specialists, with Michaels revolutionizing the ladder match. The action was outstanding, and it’s easily one of the greatest ladder matches in history. The Heartbreak Kid came close on several instances to retrieving the World Heavyweight Championship, but he couldn’t get over the line.
Ultimately, Jericho and Michaels went back and forth at the top of the ladder, but Jericho headbutted Michaels, and he retrieved the World Heavyweight Championship, bringing the curtain down on a legendary rivalry.
