Becky Lynch & 4 Others Who Lost The WWE Intercontinental Championship In Madison Square Garden

The Rock

  • Beginning Of His Reign: December 8, 1997 (Raw Is War)
  • End Of His Reign: August 30, 1998 (SummerSlam)
  • Days Held: 265
  • Number Of Televised Title Defenses: 9

The Rock was one of the best Intercontinental Champions of the Attitude Era. The Great One’s second reign in particular proved Rocky was more than ready for the spotlight. After a fantastic feud with Ken Shamrock that elevated both men, Rock, as a member of The Nation of Domination, moved on to a program with D-Generation X.

As the Nation’s de facto leader, Rock found himself defending the Intercontinental Championship against DX’s leader, Triple H, many times throughout the summer of 1998. The future main eventers stole the show in MSG at that year’s SummerSlam, exceeding all expectations and delivering a Ladder Match for the ages. In the end, Triple H captured his second Intercontinental Championship.
