1. Eddie Guerrero Vs. Brock Lesnar – WWE No Way Out 2004
The atmosphere at the Cow Palace was electric as the biggest match of Eddie Guerrero’s career, his WWE Championship bout with Brock Lesnar, headlined No Way Out 2004. Eddie’s nephew, Chavo Guerrero, won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship earlier on, and Eddie was looking to make it a clean sweep for the Guerreros.
Nevertheless, it says a lot that Eddie came out second as the challenger, since the challenger typically comes out first in a championship match. Unquestionably, the Next Big Thing had the size and strength advantage, and the three-time WWE Champion was comfortable in high-stakes matches.
The fans in attendance were desperate to see Guerrero dethrone Lesnar. The referee was knocked down, and Lesnar grabbed the WWE Championship in his clutches. However, in retaliation for causing his elimination from the 2004 Royal Rumble match, Goldberg speared Lesnar, planting the seeds for their upcoming WrestleMania 20 matchup.
Chants of Eddie reverberated around the arena, and Eddie was tantalizingly close to winning the WWE Championship. Lesnar found some strength to kick out. With the referee still unconscious, Eddie’s lying, cheating, and stealing tactics helped him attempt to nail Lesnar with the WWE Championship, but Lesnar stopped him in his tracks.
The defending WWE Champion attempted the F-5, but Eddie countered it, and Eddie planted Lesnar’s face into the WWE Championship. Eddie connected with the Frog Splash, and he did the unthinkable by winning the WWE Championship.
Wild scenes broke out with Eddie embracing his mother and brother, Mando, who appeared at ringside. Eddie’s WWE Championship victory was one of the most emotional title wins in WWE history. The atmosphere was deafening with the roof almost blown off the building.
