2. Eddie Guerrero Vs. Rey Mysterio – WCW Halloween Havoc 1997
The longstanding rivalry between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio dates back to their WCW days. Eddie and Rey became tag team partners in 2005, and they held the WWE Tag Team Championship for a couple of months. However, their feud in 2005 with Eddie becoming a heel once again was one of Latino Heat’s final major rivalries before his untimely passing in November 2005.
Furthermore, Eddie and Rey have a plethora of iconic wrestling matches in their catalog, but their match at WCW Halloween Havoc 1997 was their best. The stakes were high as the WCW Cruiserweight Championship was on the line, as was Rey Mysterio’s mask. Mysterio’s unmasking would happen if he failed to win the Cruiserweight Championship.
Mysterio and Guerrero created magic at Halloween Havoc, with Mysterio looking to go 9-0 in matches with his mask on the line. Their chemistry was unrivaled, and it’s regarded as one of WCW’s best matches. You couldn’t take your eyes off their fast-paced battle.
The match lasted 14 minutes, but it was a prime example of quality over quantity. Mysterio’s counter was innovative with a superb Hurricanrana from the top rope, preserving his mask in the process. He became a two-time WCW Cruiserweight Champion.
