At SummerSlam, CM Punk faced Gunther in a World Heavyweight Championship match. It was a great match where both men gave it their all in order to beat each other. In the end, Punk pinned Gunther, ending his 53-day reign.
Everyone was celebrating and happy for him, except for one person. Seth Rollins had the Money in the Bank briefcase, but was injured. But then he dropped his crutches, removed his leg brace, and cashed in the briefcase. That led to Punk losing his championship, devastating everyone.
On the October 13, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw, he had a number one contender’s match for the title still held by Rollins. Would he win the match and get a chance to get back his championship?
Punk Wins Triple Threat Match against Jey Uso and LA Knight
For months, Punk, Uso, and Knight have had problems with each other. But at first, they had the same common goal. All three men had varying issues with Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed, known at that time as the Vision. They have had confrontation after confrontation while fighting against them in various matches. Breakker and Reed, however, weren’t who they were really after. The three men were after Rollins and the World Heavyweight Championship.
Punk got cashed in on at SummerSlam. Uso lost the title to Gunther earlier in the year. Knight lost to Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he obtained a work-related knee injury. They had a fatal four-way match at Clash in Paris, but Rollins retained. The three men’s anger then grew at each other, with multiple disagreements and matches between them. That led to the triple threat match on Raw. All three men gave it their all during the match.

It was evident they all wanted Rollins, as they went through pin attempt after pin attempt. However, a mistake by Uso led to the ending of the match and the crowning of a new number one contender. With Punk on the ground, Uso climbed up to the top rope in an effort to deliver the Uso Splash. In an effort to stop him, Punk got his knees up in hopes of the move failing. That was the right move, as it didn’t connect. With Uso down, Punk had the perfect opportunity to get the win. He grabbed Uso, hit the Go to Sleep, and pinned him.
The pinfall was successful, and CM Punk won the triple threat match. He also made himself the next contender for Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship. For over two months, Punk had thoughts of a potential rematch stuck in his head. With this win, the match is a reality, and he could reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship from the man who stole it at SummerSlam.
