Since New Year’s Evil, Oba Femi has been NXT Champion. He has defeated a lot of credentialed wrestlers during his reign. His large stature and powerful athleticism have made retaining his championship easy. However, he isn’t the only male world champion on the brand. Last year, NXT partnered up with TNA, allowing wrestlers to appear on both brands. This proved beneficial for Trick Williams.
At Battleground, he defeated Joe Hendry to win the TNA Championship. Since then, he’s defended the belt on both NXT and TNA programming. On the September 16, 2025, episode of NXT, Femi and Williams had a confrontation on the Grayson Waller Effect. It was resolved by NXT General Manager Ava, who set up a title vs. title match on Tuesday. Unless a disqualification happens, one man will walk out as double champion. It’s realistic to think that both men have a chance to hold that distinction.
Oba Femi Should Become Double Champion
When people look at Femi, they see a clear future star. He’s super tall, very athletic and fast in the ring, and has a legitimately tough look about him. When he steps in the ring, he towers over everyone, making him have a big advantage whenever he wrestles. He’s also very young too, as he just turned 27 in April.

Putting both championships on him will establish him as the number one guy in NXT. He also made one appearance on TNA back in February, so him being champion ensures him more appearances in the company. The decision would also allow Williams to have a smooth transition to the main roster, if management decides that should happen. It would allow for success for Femi, but also a nice NXT goodbye for Williams. Both men will take the next step in their careers if Femi becomes double champion.
Trick Williams Deserves One More NXT Title Run
In the 5 years that Williams has been in NXT, he has accomplished lots of things. He won the NXT North American Championship in 2023, though he lost the title after three days. Two months after that, he won the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge, earning him an NXT Championship title shot. He then won the championship and held it from last year’s Spring Breakin’ until Heatwave for 75 days. He got it back at NXT’s CW premiere last October but lost it to Femi at New Year’s Evil.
The only three time NXT Champion has been Samoa Joe. Williams has been the face of NXT for years now. Making him a three time champ before heading to the main roster would show respect for someone that has done so much for NXT. As a thank you by management, Williams should have one last record tying run as NXT Champion.
Who Will Win the Much Anticipated Battle?
Looking at next week’s matchup, it’s tough to call a winner right now. Both Femi and Williams have carried NXT on their backs and have had great tenures with their respective championships. There’s no wrong answer as to who should become double champion. For Femi, a win will make him the true number one guy in NXT and a chance to make his mark in a TNA ring. He has the size advantage over his opponent, making him a favorite to many.
But for Williams, getting the NXT Championship for a record tying third time will be the feather in his cap before he goes to the main roster. It would be a clear thanks to someone that has defined the brand over the past couple years. Whatever happens next week, it’s clear that Femi and Williams both deserve to be the top guys for NXT and TNA.
