NXT returned to Full Sail University for the September 16 special edition of NXT: Homecoming, and TNA wrestler Joe Hendry was among the current NXT stars who were showcased. Full Sail University was the home of NXT between 2012 and 2020.

NXT Homecoming 2025

A special intro package kicked off the show and was accompanied by the iconic “Roar of the Crowd” theme. Various NXT talent were highlighted; however, fans noticed the inclusion of former TNA Champion Joe Hendry.

Hendry is still under TNA contract however he has been a regular occurrence on NXT programming recently. The 37-year-old made his NXT debut in June 2024, where he lost a 25-man battle royal. Since then, Hendry has performed at numerous Premium Live Events for the brand.

It is the worst-kept secret in wrestling that Hendry will sign with WWE once his TNA contract expires at the end of 2025. The Scotsman has already made his Royal Rumble and WrestleMania debut this year, so fans on the main roster are already familiar with him.

The former TNA Champion had become a viral sensation due to the popularity of his catchy entrance theme. “I believe in Joe Hendry” reached number one the iTunes charts in 2024. The song even caught the attention of Grammy-nominated popstar Lewis Capaldi. His overall character appeals to and entertains the fans. He quickly became one of the most popular stars in WWE for not even being a WWE superstar.

TNA and WWE are in the midst of a partnership however it’s clear that WWE has benefitted more. Former TNA Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace left the promotion to join WWE at the start of the year. Whilst the current TNA Champion is NXT superstar Trick Williams.

It is unclear whether Hendry will join the main roster immediately upon signing with WWE. Despite this, it is very clear that WWE believes in Joe Hendry.
