On September 12, 2025, WWE will present Worlds Collide: Las Vegas directly after that night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. It will be a night filled with lots of matches featuring WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide wrestlers. One of the most intriguing matches on the card is the current AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo facing off against the current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.
This fight has been brewing for many weeks, as they’ve traded insults back and forth with each other. They previously competed in a fatal four-way match for the championship at TripleMania XXXIII, where Vikingo retained his championship. During the match, AJ Styles prevented Mysterio from hoisting the championship. With no other competitors, he can go one-on-one with the champion for the title. Having him win the title from Vikingo would be a smart move for many reasons.
Dominik Mysterio Would Bring More Eyes to the AAA Product
WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide has given more people the ability to watch their programming. Every one of their events is streamed live on YouTube. Doing that means that fans can watch them for free without a subscription. It also gives the ability for WWE wrestlers to wrestle on AAA events and win their belts.
Dominik Mysterio is very over with the crowd right now. His Intercontinental Championship run has been very entertaining, with many people loving how he’s elevated the title. He’s also very familiar with the Lucha Libre style, as evident by his familial heritage. Putting the AAA Mega Championship on him would entice people that have never watched AAA to check them out. Having the next generation of the Mysterio name make AAA history of his own would continue his family legacy in AAA while also getting more viewership for the company.
WWE Would Be Capitalizing on His Popularity
Right now, there are a lot of wrestlers doing great things in WWE. AJ Lee and CM Punk are finally back together in a WWE ring. The Vision is pretty much controlling Monday Night Raw through athletic dominance. The same can be said with Dominik Mysterio. He is putting together an impressive resume as Intercontinental Champion, as he continues to gain popularity.
When he was interviewed by Vic Joseph on the September 8, 2025 episode of Monday Night Raw, the fans started chanting “Dirty Dom” numerous times. Whenever a chant of that magnitude pops up, the wrestler is definitely over with the crowd. He also noted that he beat AJ Styles the previous week by himself, indirectly saying that he doesn’t need the Judgment Day’s help to win. Making him AAA Mega Champion will make the fans’ dedication pay off and give them a reason to smile.

A Win for Him Would Make Everyone Happy
When Worlds Collide: Las Vegas happens on Friday, people will be drawn to a lot of matches. One of those matches will be El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship. Since winning the belt in late May, Vikingo has looked unstoppable as champion. But Mysterio is determined to get the belt after Styles’ attack at TripleMania XXXIII prevented him from winning.
A win means that WWE will bring new fans to AAA. He’ll be allowed to wear the belt on WWE television, so AAA will get exposure from Netflix. A victory will also be the payoff to the fans’ intense fandom towards him. He’s very over with the fans right now, so making him double champion will make them happy. Having him win the AAA Mega Championship is the best thing to do to capitalize on both AAA viewership and his popularity.
