AEW President and CEO Tony Khan today announced that, starting September 10, Bryan Danielson will become a full-time member of the AEW Dynamite broadcast team. His full-time commentary debut will take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, with the show airing live on TBS and simulcast on HBO Max at 8 pm EST.
The announcement did not say if it will be a four-man commentary team going forward or if there will be any changes. As of today, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz are the AEW Dynamite broadcast team.
Back when he was WWE’s Daniel Bryan and injuries forced him to retire in 2016, working commentary and serving in non-wrestling roles on pro wrestling shows was hard for Bryan Danielson. When Danielson retired as a full-time in-ring performer last year, it was his choice.
It was still a health-related move, but one made this time because his priority is now his life outside the ring, especially his children. In a recent interview, Danielson noted that he has not got a single item left on his pro wrestling career bucket list.

A New Backstage Wrestling Life
Danielson wrapped up his full-time career in the ring when he dropped the AEW World Championship in October 2024. He still makes occasional appearances for the promotion. Since his retirement, Danielson has remained active in AEW as a backstage member. He has been there every week producing matches.
Danielson provided analysis for several matches during the Continental Classic tournament in late 2024. He was also recently in commentary for AEW All In and AEWx NJPW Forbidden Door, and fans were caught by how much of a natural he seemed on the mic. This wasn’t the first Danielson found himself in an on-air non-wrestling role.
During his first retirement with WWE, as Daniel Bryan, he assumed the role of SmackDown General Manager, alongside Shane McMahon as the commissioner of the brand. For the most part, fans loved Danielson’s work as the GM of the Blue brand, since wrestling don’t see face authority figures that much.
There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Danielson will excel in this new role, considering his decades of experience in professional wrestling, in and out of the wrestling ring.
