Roman Reigns performed at WWE SummerSlam 2025, teaming up with his former right-hand man, Jey Uso. The duo defeated The Vision’s Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed on Night 1 of SummerSlam 2025. The former Head of The Table then appeared during the closing moments of a recent Raw episode. He attempted to take out Seth Rollins and his henchmen but was ambushed. It now seemsusual that Roman will be out of action for the next month.

WWE’s Lenient Approach to Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns debuted his Tribal Chief character after returning to WWE at SummerSlam 2020. Since then, he has taken regular breaks from WWE television. The company, and Triple H in particular, has supported this approach. Triple H refers to Roman as a special attraction, believing that Reigns should appear less frequently to maintain his impact.
According to the creative head, Roman Reigns is needed only when the storyline demands his presence. This lenient approach, similar to that of his former nemesis Brock Lesnar, allows Roman to appear on television when necessary to enhance a storyline’s excitement. This is one reason why the former Shield member was absent from weekly shows following WrestleMania 41, returning on the July 14 episode of Raw.
Roman Reigns Out of Action in September
Roman Reigns is slated to work for 4 weeks on the set of ‘STREET FIGHTER’ next month.
If things run as normal, Reigns would start on Sept. 2 and finish his commitments the week of Sept. 26.

Roman Reigns was ambushed during this week’s episode of Raw and is scheduled to appear on the August 18 episode of the red brand. This could align with his ongoing storyline involving Seth Rollins and his group. Roman was taken down alongside CM Punk and LA Knight. The trio may compete in a six-man tag team match against The Vision at Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025.
According to a report from PWInsider, Roman Reigns will be out of action from September 2 to September 26 due to prior commitments to shoot Street Fighter. This suggests that Roman and his potential team members may be taken out during or after the possible match at the next premium live event. Upon his return, a new storyline could begin, but it remains unclear who his opponent(s) will be.
WWE Could Place Roman Reigns in Various Storylines
Roman Reigns doesn’t need to build a new storyline with any superstar. He has a long, storied history with Seth Rollins, dating back to Rollins’ betrayal of The Big Dog in 2014. John Cena could also be a compelling opponent for Roman before the Cenation Leader retires. Roman returned at SummerSlam to boost sales.
During the recent Raw episode, he did not assist CM Punk or LA Knight. This could indicate underlying animosity with both superstars, potentially setting them up as his opponents upon his return.
The Dream Match with The Rock at WrestleMania 42
WWE fans have long championed a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns. It seemed inevitable at WrestleMania XL last year. The Great One appeared on the February 2, 2024, episode of SmackDown after Cody Rhodes refused to cash in his opportunity to challenge for Roman’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, despite winning the Royal Rumble.
The WWE Universe rejected this plan, forcing the company to pivot. As a result, Cody Rhodes “finished the story” at last year’s Show of Shows, becoming the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The Rock was unavailable for this year’s Showcase of the Immortals. Roman and his cousin have always expressed enthusiasm for a showdown between the ropes. Only time will tell if their egos will clash, delivering fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience at WrestleMania 42.
