Uemura and EVIL Reach 10 Points
Yuya Uemura and EVIL are now ahead of the pack. Both men won their tournament matches, becoming the only ones with 10 points.
Uemura fended off Ryohei Oiwa in their first-ever singles encounter. Not only did he reach double figures with the win, but he also secured the top spot in the A Block, which can get him a bye to the semifinals should he be able to keep it after the round robin matches.
On the other hand, EVIL won over NEVER Openweight champion Boltin Oleg. Since Uemura defeated him on day seven, he is currently in second, putting him in a good position to secure at least a quarterfinal spot in the playoffs.
Finlay’s Playoff Chances Still Alive
David Finlay defeated Yota Tsuji to keep his playoff hopes alive in the main event. This is his second straight victory after losing four straight, and now has eight points, tying Tsuji, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Callum Newman.
Meanwhile, Tsuji lost back-to-back matches, placing him in a bind, because in the current eight-point four-way knot, both Finlay and Tanahashi have wins over him. This will make it difficult for him to secure a playoff spot.
In the other A Block matches, both Taichi and Sanada’s playoff hopes are gone. Both men lost to Callum Newman and Hiroshi Tanahashi, respectively, holding both of them at six points, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention.
Tournament action will continue tomorrow, featuring the A Block, with a main event between Shota Umino and Konosuke Takeshita.
