Former WWE Divas Champion Natalya Scheduled to Wrestle at AAA Triplemania XXXIII

WWE has just announced that Natalya will wrestle at AAA Triplemania XXXIII on August 16. The veteran joins a long list of WWE talents that will participate in the Mexican promotion’s flagship annual event.

WWE acquired Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in April 2025, announcing the news during WrestleMania 41 weekend. Since the acquisition, WWE and AAA talent have crossed into each other’s territories. Natalya has already competed for the Mexican brand as she teamed with NXT talent Lola Vice in a 3-way tag team match in Mexico City on July 25.

A chance to win gold once again

The former Divas Champion will wrestle Lady Flammer and Faby Apache in a three way match for the Reina De Reinas Championship. Lady Flammer has held the gold since Triplemania XXXI in 2023, where she beat Taya Valkyrie. Apache is a four-time Reina de Reinas Champion, but has not held that championship since August 2021.

Natalya has been starved of gold herself, having not held a singles championship since November 2017. The Canadian lost her SmackDown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair by submission on the 14 November episode of SmackDown. The last championship that she held was the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Tamina in 2021.

Since then, Natalya has played a bit part role for the WWE. She has primarily featured on B-level shows such as Main Event and Speed. Her last singles match on a Premium Live Event was a squash match with Rhea Ripley at Night of Champions 2023. The Eradicator made quick work of Natalya, pinning her within 70 seconds.

Despite being stuck in a minor mentorship storyline with Maxxine Dupri, the 43-year-old has been allowed to wrestle for other promotions. Natalya defeated TNA talent Masha Slamovich at GCW’s Bloodsport event during SummerSlam Weekend. She also unsuccessfully challenged for the NWA World Women’s Title against Kenzie Page.

Whilst Natalya doesn’t possess the wealth of accolades her 23-year career deserves, she is one of the most respected and technically proficient women’s wrestlers on the planet. Given that some WWE talent already hold AAA Championships, it is highly plausible that Natalya can end Lady Flammer’s reign.

An Event scattered with top talent

Triplemania XXXIII is the first time that the annual showcase will be held under WWE stewardship. The American brand has ensured that numerous top talents will wrestle at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. In addition to Natalya, the likes of Lola Vice and members of the Judgement Day will all compete. Los Garza will be defending their AAA World Tag Team Championships.

The main event will see El Hijo Del Vikingo defend his AAA Mega Championship in a 4-way match against three WWE superstars. Dragon Lee, Ludwig Kaiser’s incarnation of El Grande Americano and Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.

The inclusion of Mysterio is significant, as AAA is the brand in which his father, Rey Mysterio, was a household name in the 1990s. The crowd went wild when Dirty Dom attacked Lee and Vikingo, announcing his participation in the championship match at Triplemania.

In regards to Rey Mysterio, the legend will be at the show in a non-wrestling capacity. The master of the 619 will be inducting his friend Konnan into the AAA Hall of Fame.

Triplemania XXXIII will be streamed worldwide on the WWE YouTube channel.
