Day 11 Finishes With a Tighter A Block
The current A Block standings grew even tighter after day 11. All three wrestlers with eight points coming in lost, and two others joined the mix.
In the main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi picked up the victory over Yota Tsuji. Tanahashi now has six points and also got the 100th G1 Climax win of his career, the most in the tournament’s rich history.
In the previous match, David Finlay won over EVIL. Finlay won a second straight match after losing three in a row and now also has six points, not to mention getting it at the expense of a man he has a lot of hatred for.
The last one of the three who were previously tied with eight points to lose was Yuya Uemura. He fell to Sanada, causing a five-way tie at six points between Sanada, Finlay, Tanahashi, Taichi, and Callum Newman.
The two who won to reach eight points were Ryohei Oiwa and NEVER Openweight champion Boltin Oleg. Oiwa defeated one-half of the IWGP Tag Team champions, Taichi, while Oleg prevailed over Newman.
The other half of A Block is now tied with eight points each, while the other half has six points each. This means every win from now on is crucial for all of them to stay in the hunt for a top three spot and advance to the playoffs.
The tournament will resume on Tuesday, August 5, where the B Block will continue their campaign. It will be headlined by a Shingo Takagi vs. Zack Sabre Jr. main event.
