With WrestleMania 41 less than two months away, WWE announced that CM Punk would be crossing over into enemy territory to appear on two episodes of SmackDown as part of the Road to WrestleMania UK/Europe Tour. In addition to the Raw on March 17th taking place from Brussels, Punk will also be gracing both Bologna (March 21) and London (March 28) with the work of the Best in the World.
While the results of the Elimination Chamber hang in the balance, it remains unknown what business Punk could have on SmackDown. Of course, should he win the chamber, then his presence is clear as he and Cody Rhodes would need to continue building the program that unofficially started to kick into gear prior to the Royal Rumble. If Punk doesn’t win the chamber however, his path to WrestleMania 41 and the main event of his dreams, seems further from reach. But might there be a certain SmackDown superstar he needs to confront on that road?
It was also announced that Roman Reigns will be making two televised appearances on SmackDown, and look at that, those correspond with the same shows Punk has been announced for (insert double eyes emoji here). Both Reigns and Punk will be in the building in Bologna and London and the Tribal Chief is already promising his return to SmackDown with some receipts. Perhaps Reigns will make his looming presence known in Toronto on Saturday, costing Punk in the chamber and same way Punk cost Reigns in the rumble. Or if Reigns doesn’t show at Elimination Chamber, he could show up to SmackDown to confront Punk for the first time since Punk eliminated him from the rumble and cost him his shot at regaining his world championship. And even still, these receipts may have to do with a certain favor that Reigns’ “one behind the one” still owes his former Paul Heyman guy…
There has been talk that WWE is building to a Roman Reigns/CM Punk/Seth Rollins triple threat at WrestleMania 41 and if that is indeed the case, the seeds could be planted on Saturday, but really start to germinate a few weeks later in Europe.
