Saquon Shugars Promises It’s “Just Getting Started” After Vengeance Day Attack

Leading up to Vengeance Day, Saquon Shugars (formerly Lucky Ali WWE) posted a video on social media with a petition to get himself booked for the NXT PLE. Well, Shugars wasn’t booked in a match but alongside Cutler James, Osiris Griffin (formerly Josh Black) and Dion Lennox, he made his presence known not once but twice on the night, attacking after both the tag team championship and NXT championship matches.

Saquon Shugars hit X (formerly Twitter) after the show’s end, to announce that his unnamed group is just getting started. One athlete named Saquon (Barkley) just won a Super Bowl Championship, could 2025 also be the year another Saquon claims a title as well?

Who is Saquon Shugars?

Of the four wrestlers who made their impact at Vengeance Day on Saturday, none is more experienced in the ring than Saquon Shugars, who made his independent wrestling debut in 2018 with Five Star Pro Wrestling. His ring name was Lucky Ali, the same name he’d use in the beginning of his WWE career. Shugars continued to ply his trade at smaller indies through 2021, his breakout year on the circuit. Shugars wrestled for Premiere Wrestling Xperience, World Wrestling Network, Total Impact Pro, and even New Japan Pro Wrestling during their U.S. tour. Through his title with WWN and TIP, Shugars wrestled under the Evolve Network, thus catching the attention of WWE.

In 2022, Saquon Shugars wrestled for DEADLOCK Pro Wrestling, Combat Zone Wrestling, and AEW, where he wrestled four matches across AEW Dark and Dark Elevation. The following year, Shugars made his WWE debut as local talent squashed by Indus Sher on Raw. Just a few months after that, it was announced that Shugars had signed on to start training at the Performance Center as a member of the NXT roster. He wrestled four WWE matches that year, making his Level Up debut in March. Shugars entered 2025 having yet to win a match in WWE but the new year brought new success as in Shugars’ two matches on the year, he’s undefeated. Granted, both matches came in house shows or dark matches but picking up wins of any kind seems to suggest WWE has big things in mind.

The Vengeance Day attack, marking Shugars’ PLE debut, furthers that idea. There will certainly be more to come as Shugars, Lennox, and co return to NXT in the coming weeks. Perhaps they’ll explain their actions or formalize their alliance with a name.
