NWA Powerrr Recap (3/5/24)

A match graphic for NWA Powerrr.

“Prepare yourself for the new age, the age of the Warlord of the Wasteland, Max the Impaler.”

NWA Powerrr started strong with a power vignette reminding viewers of the buildup to the TV title rematch. Father James Mitchell, the leader of the Miserably Faithful, makes it clear that it is their time in the NWA.

Your First Contest is Scheduled for One Fall

This episode of NWA Powerrr was the first in the newly minted “Powerrr Station.” Galli and Dealz, on commentary, set the stage for the new feel. The continued evolution of the NWA was in full effect. The first match in the new studio was for the Jr. Heavyweight Title.

Colby Corino defended the belt against Yabo the Clown. One half of the Brothers of Instruction, the Clown brothers, are the reigning Juggalo Championship Wrestling Tag Team Champions. Corino sets out early at a fast pace, showing his agility. Yabo adds an entertaining and slapstick approach to the product that counters the serious “pro-rasslin” approach that Colby was attempting to use.

Colby Corino was the first wrestler to climb the new set for a high-power offensive maneuver. A huge crossbody helped lead to the finish. A spot featuring a “poison balloon” and a superkick ended with Corino hitting a Jumping DDT for the win.

After the match, the NWA Women’s World Champion had a few choice words for the King Bees.

“You don’t have the leverage Pretty Empowered has.”

Kenzie Paige would lay the groundwork for a “Pretty Match,” describing it as a two out of three falls match. The bigger stipulation was mentioned by the sister of the champ, former tag champ Kylie Paige. If a member of the King Bees wins, whoever secures the pinfall will get a shot at the NWA Women’s World Title.

Tag Team Contenders Opportunity

The second match saw the NWA tag champs, BFT, in a non-title match. Father James Mitchell sent out Sal Rinauro and Gaagz the Gymp. The commentary team labeled this as almost a punishment on the team inflicted by their manager. As the Miserably Faithful gained momentum, it looked like they had a chance at victory.

Sal would come back to hit a huge 619 combo with a flying elbow off the top rope. This would quickly be shut down as BFT Carnage finishes off Gaagz in the center of the ring for the pin.

Kyle Davis then spoke with both the NWA World’s Champ EC3 and all three members of the Southern Six. EC3 described the pain he has felt since the ‘Ultimate Match of Death’ against Matt Cardona a few weeks back on NWA Powerrr. The champion closed his promo with the quote.

“To be the man, you have to be OVER MAN!”

‘Thrillbilly’ Silas Mason and the Southern Six would be next. Mason would make it clear he is the biggest person in the NWA Locker Room, and it’s his world. Silas would say there isn’t a scratch on “the champ’s face” as a rebuttal to EC3 and his recent struggles with ‘retention.’ Making it clear he is coming for the 10 Pounds of Gold at some point.

Kerry Morton and Alex Taylor would also set their eyes on BFT and the Tag Titles. Although this week featured less matches, the additions of the story based promos add to the depth of the show.

Vampiro is Back and Your Main Event

Vampiro is back and would cut a promo before the main event. He xplained that for 40 years he has done everything for someone else, but now he is focusing on him. The former WCW star is setting his sights on the NWA and pounding through the locker room.

The main event was a TV title rematch from three weeks ago. Max the Impaler versus ‘Big Strong’ Mims. The commentary team would clarify that it wasn’t a traditional “unification.” Max would be defending their titles against whichever division the challenger identified in. Therefore, Mims identifies as a man, so this was for the men’s TV title.

Fought under the traditional 6:05 tv time limit, the match started strong. Like the title vs. title match this bout saw lots of power from both sides. Dubbed ‘Two Belts Max’ by Dealz, Max would land a huge rolling cannonball into the corner on Mims.

Max would continue to be in control until they missed a huge Vader Bomb in the corner. The back and forth would continue for the entire time limit. Mims would get a near fall but the three count lands just as the bell rings for the time limit being reached.

After the match Mims would start to lose his mind a little. He would begin demanding 5 more minutes and at one point even put his hands on James Mitchell. Dak Draper would come out to help Mims as the brawl was broken up.

Mitchell would have these words for Mims as the episode ended.

“This is an outrage. Mims you have a few problems. 1 – You’re stupid! 2- You hit like a girl! And 3- You put your filthy hands on me.”

The Miserably Faithful are coming for ‘Big Strong’ Matthew Mims.
