NJPW New Japan Cup 2024 & Sakura Genesis – Everything to Know

A promotional graphic for the NJPW New Japan Cup.

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) recently announced the lineup for their annual New Japan Cup Tournament in March; this year will see some debuts, such as Jack Perry, Callum Newman, Boltin Oleg, and TJP, with quite a few returning faces.

The tournament will feature 28 men this year with the right to challenge Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP World championship on April 6th. With the spring of 2024 coming quickly, NJPW wants fresh talent in their upper scene since the recent departures.

The field of 28 is a damn good opportunity for everyone to step up and put it forward. Let’s get to the opening round of the upcoming New Japan Cup, which starts on March 6th on the NJPW 52nd Anniversary undercard. Here is everything to know about the forthcoming events for NJPW.

3/6/24

  • YOSHI-HASHI vs. KENTA – “Winner faces SANADA in the 2nd round.”
  • Jack Perry vs. Shota Umino – “Winner faces Yano/Yujiro Takahashi on March 11th.”

3/7/24

  • David Finlay vs. TJP – “Winner faces Loa/Okha on March 12th.”
  • Chase Owens vs. Tomohiro Ishii – “Winner faces Hirooki Goto in the 2nd round.”

3/8/24

  • Hikuleo vs. Boltin Oleg – “Winner faces EVIL in the 2nd round.”
  • Shingo Takagi vs. Yuya Uemura “Winner faces Kidd/Newman on March 13th.”

3/10/24

  • Jeff Cobb vs Yota Tsuji: “Winner faces ELP/Nicholls on March 15th.”
  • Taichi vs Ren Narita  – “Winner faces Zack Sabre Jr. on March 15th.”

The heavy favorites to win the 2024 edition of the March tournament are TMDK frontman Zack Sabre Jr, David Finlay, Shingo Takagi, and Shota Umino.

Whoever wins the finals next month will definitely dethrone Tetsuya Naito before the G1 Climax gets here. Going to go out on a limb and say Jack Perry will make a deep run within the tournament along with the former NJC winner EVIL.
