Bruiser Brody Widow to Be Interviewed for Puertorican Outlet

A photo of Bruiser Brody.

In what can very well become a pretty big story, an interview is scheduled by the Puertorican podcast ‘La Vuelta‘ that will feature none other than Barbara Goodish. The widow of the late Bruiser Brody. The interview is set to premiere this Tuesday on La Vuelta’s YouTube page at 6 pm (Atlantic Time) and will subsequently be available on their podcast feed.

Background

La Vuelta is hosted by Dennis Rivera. A successful wrestler as well as the younger brother of WWF alumni Savio Vega. It is Puerto Rico’s premiere pro wrestling podcast with Dennis Rivera bringing in a figure from the local wrestling scene for a brief chat. In a similar vein to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s own podcast, Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho, and similar podcasts of the late 2010’s.

Barbara Goodish’s participation is of course extremely notable. Bruiser Brody was killed by Puertorican wrestler and then booker of Capitol Sports Promotion (now World Wrestling Council) José Huertas Gonzalez. Known by his ring name “Invader #1“. The incident took place on July 17th, 1988, and has been documented by many. It’s well known, Invader #1 was released under the claim of self-defense in what was a clearly dubious trial.

Some few years ago, Puertorican media had interviewed Invader #1 in regards to the infamous incident. Where the wrestler claimed he had talked things out with Barbara Goodish. Asking for forgiveness and such.

Of course, those same outlets never bothered asking her if it was true. She herself has stated as such. So this being her first proper interview with an outlet from Puerto Rico, especially one so tied to pro wrestling, makes this a very notable interview. As it will be the first time the island will be exposed to the other side of this tragedy.

To this day, the tragedy of Bruiser Brody’s death continues to haunt the island of Puerto Rico. As it led to an exodus of international talent when it happened, speeding up the eventual bankruptcy of Capitol Sport Promotion and leaving a stigma on the island for the decades to follow.

Despite still being a strong pro wrestling territory, it has always had a feeling of being “behind the times”. As external influences had been stifled following the incident. At the same time, Invader #1 would continue to prosper as a top star. Billed as “The Puertorican Dream”.

To this very day, he is still seen as a very influential figure. To the masses of the island, he’s treated as a hero. And any criticism relating to his wrongdoings is met with a “oh, let it go, that was so long ago”.

Barbara Goodish getting the chance to speak her mind will finally bring a level of closure to this that has been sorely missed. And it will be done by an outlet that does not hold Invader #1 in high regard at all as host Dennis Rivera many times over has expressed his dislike for the man. We will have to see what comes of this interview. If it will truly bring about closure, shine a new light on the subject or such.
